On a technicality, I assume you mean that the line is closest to the blank at the end of the back cast, as the rod has now stopped and the line is now moving behind the caster, the guides are fa

Thanks for the response Herb. It is much appreciated.
Do you have any idea what the ball park ring span of #4 single foot guides are in millimeters? And concerning the tip top...what should the ring size be in proportion to the ring sizes of the running guides? Should they essentially be the same size?

Stage #1 - on my #9 and #10 - Fuji Ti SIC rings in #20 and #16. Then REC Recoil S/F runner. For #8-10 #4runners."
As related to the above, I'm not sure what Fuji guides you are referring to., ie, the Fuji Ti SiC guides. And are they single or double foot guides? Also, I assum

"The rod is still a lever in spite of its flex, and yes, the longer the rod the greater the advantage of the fish." "And the more easily one could feel the bite." There it is, stated once again. That may be true. Just tell me why?
For experimental purposes, you cannot set up "two identical rods" of different lengths. That is simply a contradiction of terms.

OK Tom......I have been reading through this thread with great interest. I must tell you that I value your opinion more often than not when it comes to this site, but this has been bugging me to no end. You have stated several times that (all things being equal...can they be?) a longer rod is more sensitive than a shorter rod. You and I agree one hundred percent that "sensitivity" is

As Tom said......"First you have to define what "sensitivity" is. And that's not easy - it means different things to different people." No truer words were ever written. If one doesn't have a particular notion of what he or she considers "sensitive", then that person could never be able to compare rods of different "sensitivities", or attempt to build tha

Joan Wulff still holds the ladies' record distance cast of 161 feet, which I think occurred in 1960 or 1961. It doesn't matter. She did it with a bamboo fly rod.
I'm a pretty good caster, couldn't come anywhere near that distance, and I'm betting my fly rods are better than anything she ever handled at that time. Rod blank technology has likely come a long way since the bamboo days, but i

Hey Norm,
Since you're on a roll, do you have the data on an NFC 736-1? I bought this blank on your recommendation a while back, but haven't gotten to it yet. I'm hoping it works out for inshore salt water...trout, redfish and snook.

Sorry Mark,
I just saw your reply and I cannot let this go. First off my friend, nowhere and at any time did I criticize anyone's replies. I did however repeatedly ask anyone end everyone who replied to actually answer my question if within their reply they did not. There is far too much interest (possibly hype) surrounding this topic not to dig in, and because I have used it and wasn'

Mike,
I am willing to call it a day myself. My point in all this is that I have seen endless discussions about this KR system, and I intermittently see guys losing sleep over trying to figure out the diagrams, and the mathematical formulas and measurements, and all the variables loaded into the use of this system. There are guys who stated that using the guidelines of the system, and in

Mike,
You have given me your answer as to why the KR system is better in your opinion...improved casting distance. You also suggested that if I want to know why the KR system is "better", I should ask Fuji. Well...the LAST people I want to ask are the people from Fuji. I want to ask people like you. Fuji wants to sell a product that they claim is better for any number of rea

OK guys, I do not think I'm beating a dead horse here. All those things you have thrown at me describing what Fuji has done with guide sizes, guide groups, line control, putting smaller rings on a higher frame etc...etc...does not answer the basic question....TO WHAT END? It seems to me that most people feel that what Fuji has done with the KR concept is genius. Statements like "It all ad

Mike...
You write..."What I do know for sure is that it works very well, so well that I don't even test cast any more". So now my question is...what is it that is working so well? What makes casting a rod using the KR system different from casting a rod that you built using whatever system it was that you used prior?

I don't know if anyone will read this at this point, but can anyone explain to me what the magic is in the KR Concept system? Is it the the structural design of the components? Is it the spacing theory of the components? Is it somehow a combination of the two? And because my understanding is that there are other manufacturers of guides similar to Fuji's KR Concept guides, one should be able t

OK I'll bite. Why couldn't you use masking tape period. I have built two tarpon rods in my life, both fly rods, 11 and 12 wts. The last one perhaps 25 years ago easy. They both saw a lot of action, and still could today if I got the chance. So why not plain old masking tape?

Yes! Actually, you don't need the arrows unless you have them. You could use anything you want, including wooden dowels I suppose, and just buy the nocks and work t

Why didn't I think of that? A little drop of blood on the underside of your micro guide foot, slap it on the blank, give it a minute or so to dry...and instant guide foot adhesive, flat as a pancake.

I'm sure this has been covered in the past, but I cannot find any specific information on the subject. I'd like to know if there are any companies making what amounts to a KR Concept 'wanna be' guide series that are considered to be of reasonably good quality to stand up to salt water use. Just shy of two years ago, I purchased two sets of Fuji concept stripping and running guides, and they wer

I had a good friend in Hawthorne, Anthony (Tony) Dellacroce, who lived on Linda Ave or Street...I don't remember.
