61. Re: NFC service
I have mixed emotions about them. Absolutely love their blanks. When I get a hold of someone they are quite friendly. Aleks is a really nice guy. But how they do business and stay in business baffles the @#$%& out of me. I've had stuff show up quickly and stuff not so quickly. Some missing key items that are seriously slowing me down. I guess I keep going back like an abused spouse does. Lol

62. Hydra blanks?
I've been kind of hung up on a particular blank manufacture but after crummy customer service I want to branch out and try something new to me. My customers fish mostly bass and was wondering if anyone has experienced Hydra blanks. I have used MHX, Rainshadow and lamiglas and I've been satisfied but always looking at others.
Thanks as always

Lots of great advise. Thank you all. I've been buying up a few blanks for personal builds so I can show different handles , styles, cork and carbon.

I have a guy wanting a fly rod built. It's looking like a 9' 5wt. My question is does it matter if it's a reverse half wells or full wells? He's a big dude so I wouldn't think it would matter but I'm still a novis fly fisherman and don't really recognize the difference. One more thing , this will be his first fly rod if that matters.
Thanks as always. Mark

Steve , which Alps do you recommend and are they all single foot guides or do you use a double foot first guide?

I am building a couple NFC MB736 X Ray's and was considering micro guides. Would fuji be the best option or are the other manufacturers putting quality micro guides out there? I have pretty much used fuji exclusively and looking to see what else is out there.
Thanks as always

Aleks, I just have to say I am super impressed. I have ordered in the past and really had no shipping issues. That said I just ordered 3 blanks, 2 Xray and 1 fly LMX, last night and have already received a tracking number today for all 3 blanks. Keep up the good work.

I have a friend that is looking for an ultralight rod around 8 to 10 foot. Panfish are the target species. Says he wants to cast small crankbaits and floats. Any suggestions? Some have suggested a 2 to 4 wt fly blank. Thanks as always

Norm, let me ask you this. With the rod I'm building Fuji suggest a 6L. My rod will be used for winter steelhead and I've had my guides guides iced up and very annoyed. I was wanting to use size 7 running guides to see if that helps a little. I use chapstick on my guides but sometimes forget. Will 7's change much?

Norm, I totally figured out the KR Concept placement guide. Pretty straight forward. I was just toying around with Guide Placement Software as well. When I plugged in measurements and KL-H guides is where the confusion comes into play. But the Rod is 110" , reel at 15" and 15 -20 braid with a conventional setup.

I looked at both for assistance. The guide placement and Concept. The NCS makes sense to me.

First time using the free software. I don't think I'm quite understanding it. If anyone is familiar with it could you help me out. My reel is a shimano Ultegra 4000XG . Dist "a" 81.5 "b" 74.5 "c" 121mm. Spool dia. 51.7 mm . When I plug in the numbers for KL-H guides the measurements show them stacked together. I just don't think i quite understand what I'm looking a

I'm building a 9'8" lamiglas steelhead casting rod. My first this long. My question is would 14 to 15" up be acceptable to mount the seat? It feels pretty balanced when mocked up. I kind of like the long handle as well. It will be a split grip because quite honestly this butt section on the blank is rather gorgeous.
Thanks as always for input.

I just ordered a couple Lamiglas ISS1102H and I was thinking of building it for casting. I have always used spinning gear for my salmon and steelhead fishing. Is there a benefit to using casting gear?

Just wrap a fly guide for the tip. Most tip tops add extra weight to noodles that will make you unhappy

I just built an Eternity 2 and it is pretty stiff. It is extra fast .

I don't see much good or bad when it comes to lamiglas fly blanks. I am considering a GP1088 2 PC blank and was wondering if anyone has any reviews. I love their closer line of blanks. I was thinking a modrate/ fast action 8 wt GP would go nicely with the 8wt extra fast Rainshadow Eternity 2 I just built.

I actually purchased a couple of their walleye series "The Closer" blanks for smallmouth fishing in my kayak. Shorter lengths are more ideal for me. CWB75MH 6'3" and damn is it a sweet blank. I used acarbonfiber grips and it is light and responsive

Well, I plan to use the rainshadow for steelhead and "chuck and duck" so it should fill the bill then. Thanks

I am a learner when it comes to fly fishing and building fly rods. And Math is not my strong suit but nonetheless I can get by. I have 2 fly rods I'm working on and decided to try out the common cents approach.
#1 is a Hook and Hackle marketed as a 10wt and if I did it right I had 88 "shiny cents" ERN 10.7 and AA of 70 seems about right
#2 is a Rainshadow Eternity marketed as an 8

I have a good friend who snapped a rod while fishing and he would like me to try to repair it. I usually shy away from those repairs because the time and cost of a repair you can get a new blank and start over. He is adamant that I try. It is a Kistler med heavy fast action bass blank broke in top area where the action is.. Would a repair hold up to the hard hook sets and I'm sure the action wil

Thanks for the compliments gentlemen. Herb, to be fair, its my first fly grips. I've made just a couple others for spinning and casting. But , I am still working off my first quart of epoxy from Soller.

I am always looking to be different and was wondering if there is real value in using microwave guides on a baitcasting rod. I am willing to try them out and see for myself. Just curious how light they're compared to say a fuji Sic. Anyone have an opportunity to use them?

Funny you must know who I purchased from. Maybe they are charging me the tax on the blank before the sale price which would justify that. Thanks as always everyone
