Call either one, if not both of these numbers: 1-877-876-2455 or 703-248-2100 Those are the main numbers for the USPS Inspector General. Call them EVERY TIME you get a free minute. ALSO, lodge a complaint here ..... THEN, Even after doing all of those, file a complaint with the link below with the FTC (Fair Trade Commission) REGARDLESS of ANYTHING that happens, if you ar

I can't help with anything you are looking for but that sounds like an awesome project! One guy who is on this site who is pretty knowledgeable about fly rods is Herb Ladenheim. He might be a guy who can help you out.

I may not be reading this post correctly, but I believe I am and it looks like your biggest issue, is NOT spinning the rod when it is drying. When I first started out, I thought I could get away with not having a rod dryer, or a wrapping machine, but in time, I gave in and eventually bought a whole wrapping machine and all of those issues you are experiencing became a thing of the past.

Quick story. I was out working in my yard on Saturday and came across a "snakeskin" that had been shed by its previous owner. It was a small snake and thought to myself, "this might be an interesting experiment with one of my smaller diameter inshore rods". I ever so carefully carried it inside the house and put it in my rod wrapping room, right on top of my table on the m

I bet both of those would work as I used to use a 30-50 lb line rod myself when I lived in Maryland for awhile for pulling umbrella's for Rockfish. Moreover than anything, its the "drag" of the umbrella rig I was always concerned with. I used a 15-30 with a 8000 Penn spinner for a time, but once you get a 30+ inch Rock on the line while trolling, that bend got a little scary sometim

What Mark and/or Norm said above! You can also try to wrap the feet with A size thread, and then re-wrap over the top of that. Sometimes, it works pretty well!

Welcome Danny! I did something similar when I first started with 4 inshore rods that I owned and were totally beat finish wise. You learn a lot just from the strip down of the old rods! I eventually rewrapped all 4 rods and they came out great. One thing I still have a tendency to do is buy old rods at garage sales just to try different wraps and patterns and I am totally not ashamed to pull

Yes, and No. My 2 cents on this ..... I am sure others will chime in with some other information, but preserving the color with thread preserver also SEALS the the thread and the overcoat you put over the threads (Prokote or Flexcote or whatever you use) doesn't saturate the threads and doesn't really lock the threads to the rod. It makes it a lot easier for an eye to come off the rod esp

I loves me some Collinite wax! I use this on my boat as well. You don't put it on and wait for it to dry like other waxes, you rub it in until its gone and it just makes your rods sparkle, shine and repel everything.

CRB Color Series available from Mudhole. If you're not into color, they also provide the same blank in Black. Depending upon if you want medium, medium heavy or heavy action, the blank will set you back anywhere from $30 to $45 dollars. I've brought in 42 inch Redfish, 30lb Black Drum and 40lb Tarpon and its still the perfect rod to use for Seatrout. I've never had one snap and the medium hea

A fresh, straight out of the box razor blade is my go to when I have to cut EVA. You can hold the single sided razor or use a box cutter handle or, depending upon how thick the EVA is you're cutting, you can use a utility knife/razor. A fresh razor is like a hot knife going thru hot butter! Just keep your wits about you and don't "lean into it" and score the rod with the razor.

I've recently started putting the 30/10 on a few of my new beach rods and I really need to upload some photos of the builds. I was slightly apprehensive about using them at first. Dont get me wrong, all my inshore rods use the Microwave guides so I am quite familiar with the eyes and their performance but most beach rods use a 50 for the first guide, or a 30 at least. I purchased the 30/10 set

I wholeheartedly agree with everything you said. Deb gets the job done and its in the mail even before you think it will be and the quality is second to none. She has even put up with my crazy "2 color shadow" decal ideas and delivered exactly what I envisioned.

David, Welcome to the forum. Throwing in my 2 cents, and echoing Steve Cox, when I first got started, I stripped 2 blanks, one was one of my inshore rods, the other was a beach rod. When you strip a blanks, you certainly learn a lot about how its built. Not everyone wraps a rod the same and you'll learn a lot just from tearing one down. I still have my first 2 "stripped" bl

So this guy Herb Ladenheim was offering some dark cork rings a few weeks back, all you had to do was pay for shipping. We get emailing and find out a few things about each others interest in the hobby. He tells me he has some "special" thread. We talk further. He offers up some of this "thread" and sends it to me. Its some of the NICEST thread I have ever seen!

Roger, Why do I get the strange feeling you used to be an "Electro-Mechanical Packaging" Engineer at one point in your life?!?! Your work is always pristine and flawless, and it reminds me of half the things we make for NASA right now! Nice work and you really should consider starting a company of some sorts!

You can also find out what kind of shrink you have, and find out if it is "Directional" or "Non directional". Where I work, we shrink cable assemblies and it will shrink in diameter 50% or more (2" diameter shrinks to 1" inch diameter), but since its "directional", the length of the tube will only shrink .005 to .02 in length meaning, a 12" piece

One of the advertisers on this site, Decal Connection, can probably make one, or as many as you like. I get all my decals from them and they are always first rate.

Steve, Adding my 2 cents, for me at least, I guess it all depends on what you consider Medium, Heavy, or Medium Heavy. I've been using the CRB blanks from Mudhole as of late and buying their versions of Medium, Medium Heavy and Heavy, I have pretty much decided upon the perfect blanks being either their Medium or Medium Heavy, in any of the lengths they offer. As far as the 7' foot

I have always had issues with 2 piece rods over time: 1. The ferrule gets "slippery" and there comes that day when you make a cast, and the end of the rod goes flying through the air landing right in the middle of a school of "once in a lifetime" Redfish ! -or- 2. The ferrule gets "weak" and splits, usually when you are fighting that "once in a lifet

Mike, Are you doing this because the winding check has a larger ID than the rod has an OD where you're putting the winding check and you're afraid it isn't going to be centered? It sounds like maybe that is your case. If it is the case, I have done a couple things to alleviate the issue you may be having, I have either put down a coat of "high build" in the area to make the rod

There is a difference in the winding checks that come with handle kits that I have noticed over time. Some companies will send you the "plastic rubber" type of winding check and some companies will send you real rubber winding checks. They both work, and you just have to size them to the rod you're building and I have a box that has 6 different size ID's separated from all the windi

Tossing in my 2 cents, I think its a cost issue at times. You have to think about how many rods you have for each specific type of fishing. Because I now live in Merritt Island / Cocoa Beach Florida, and the "Gulf Stream" is now 42 miles offshore as opposed to when I lived in Fort Lauderdale where it was 12 miles out, I have 8 sets of Medium Heavy, 7' custom built Banana River rods
