I have found at times that the customers that can afford it, don't want to pay it. My best customers have always been those that find a way to pay it,even if they sacrifice something else and maybe make payments. They get my skills worth for their money and my time. And maybe then some...

The lowest that come to mind are discontinued. They are Fuji DHG's. They were a saltwater guide with a fairly heavy chrome frame and an aluminum oxide ring set in a nylon shock ring. They basically sat with the bottom of the OD of the ring a few centimeters off the blank. I have used them as a bumper guide on spiral wrapped builds. As for anything contemporary, I don't have the foggiest idea who

John It ends where and when you say it will. We, as rodbuilders often keep going despite failing eyesight. We just increase the magnification. ;)

"I think I need to keep my wraps tighter to the design threads and be a little more patient." John, you are on the right track. One suggestion I have is to wrap multiple wraps of tape over the threads on the left at the beginning and then doubling it back on itself to provide some stickiness to also help hold threads in place. This will help to keep things both anchored, and centered w

John That's a drag to hear. But that's the spirit of sharing questions and answers here. :) It still might be fixable so don't add finish before you post a pic. You just might get some more helpful feedback.

Just call or email Mudhole and ask them to be certain. They are a reputable business and won't give you bad info. I am not saying or even implying any of the previous responses are wrong. Why is it so hard for people to go straight to the source?

Jon,those numbers on the looms correspond to the design threads used to make the pattern. Each slot in the foam is numbered to allow the weaver to quickly identify each thread for movement back and forth. This reduces confusion. Usually anyway... ;)

John,I am basing what I say after seeing your picture of your setup. You may find things easier if you don't literally go by the direct numbering on your looms. By that,I mean if you centered the threads more, it could prove easier altogether. The way you have your threads laid out, you will find the design wants to "wander" off center. That can present an issue in keeping it centered o

I started at 12 replacing guides and re-wrapping some junk rods. That was in 1967 and continued until I built my first rod 3 years later. I built for myself as a quasi business venture as well as a number of stores in the area. Now,I wrap what projects for myself and others as I wish to. I am a mere 62 years old.

Adam, maybe you were thinking of something along the lines of 3M Cold Shrink tubing. That is typically thicker and used on West Coast style rail rods.

When it comes to nylons and finishes, each is its own thing. Epoxy finishes were not formulated to do anything other than to coat whatever. In this case, thread. It is the same as Tom K. reminds us about rod blanks. A blank is a blank is a blank. They know not their intended use. It is an inanimate object with various properties designed into them to do what is needed. Is there a "best"

Lam, you have stated that you will build them as is. Good idea. This is for others that may be considering shortening a blank. By altering blanks from those manufacturers,I believe it voids any warranty. This is often the case when shortening blanks, period. Shortening the length of the ferrules would be unwise,at best. That would certainly void any blank warranty. I have no idea about all ma

172. Re: Grips
Freshwater or saltwater grips? Believe it or not, this is not intended as a smart-aleck remark. Try garden hose or automotive hose material. If I wanted to be smart mouthed...I would suggest using a condom. Another idea is to have an auto-glass shop make you a bead of silicone sealant in a length long enough to make your grips. I actually have some a friend of mine gave me with another intend

Randy, I did not wish to post a link to the video as he is not a sponsor among other reasons. I was referring to @#$%&. I typed cord because I meant to say cord. He drills a hole on the butt of the blank to secure the cord through it with a knot. The point I was trying to make is that you ought to be fine.

I believe I know the video you are referring to. You are fine. If you need verification, just check out the video on laying down a cord grip by the same gentleman. That ought to speak volumes and set your mind at ease.

Interesting answer Bill. Remind me again why you don't or won't use Fuji thread. Especially the metallics.

I don't know about the past. I believe the stats are now silkscreened on the blank. I believe the old ones were peel and stick though.

Lamiglas used to make a series of rods for using Alvey reels. You might try contacting them to see if they have any in a dark corner somewhere. That was quite a few years ago however. Other than that, try creating your own or bite the bullet and get one from them. While the part may be inexpensive to purchase, it might be worth it to bite the bullet and pay it to keep using the reel. Contact Al
