Depending on your intended lure weights, Rainshadow may have what you need. Another possibility are the United Composite blanks. They make some with the 70/30 split. Those are designed for throwing. Surface iron for West coast gamefish. Those jigs can weigh up to around 5 or 6 ounces. Batson blanks are quality products.

Dave, I can relate. Not many differences to note. The biggest one is that you can't pass wraps over a flame to take care of any fuzzies, as it's a natural fiber as opposed to nylon. It can also fray a little easier.

I am just repeating what I read somewhere. But the gist of it was that silk, when compared to an equal size nylon is actually stronger.

Any manufacturers suggestions are just that. Why not figure out the placement for yourself? It isn't hard, nor rocket science. What will matter is that the guide sizes allow for any connections to pass through them without hanging up. Stripper guides are usually place just past the reach of the intended users stripping hand.

As I understand it, pics are to be posted only in the pics section. Maybe it takes up too much space or bandwidth. Miscellaneous category would be best.

Adam, this is what I would do with it. I'd lay down a wrap of thread that matched the guides. Be sure to match the wrap with tipping or inlays to match the stripper if you wish. Coat it with several layers of a pre-catalized urethane finish. I use a product that none of the advertisers/supporters of this forum carry. Then, I'd use a metallic gel pen to write my name on it, coat it with CP and let

Which section is the issue on? At what point is it on the section? A measurement from the bottom of it could help as well. What are the OD dimension at said "burn" point? And frankly, at that miniscule of a depth, although the damage may extend deeper, I wonder how much of a mountain you may be making of a molehill. Why not just find a thread color that matches the blank, or wrap a s

It might help to clarify what you mean when you say,"glueing up some foregrips." Do you mean you epoxied the skins on the foregrip? Did you not want tenons on your foregrips also? Or were those an afterthought? Are you going to extend the sleeves onto the tenons? If so,remember to allow for the extra space taken up by the sleeve when shaping it.

Denatured can be found at your local paint store or in the paint section at Lowes, Home Depot , Wal-Mart, etc. Unless you live in California. It has been banned there.

Pretty much the same specs as a Calstar 6455. Leon Todd made those for California Tackle. Later,he formed his own company,Tackle Specialties. AKA, Calstar...

If you need extra security for that, wrap 3 turns of masking tape around the blank. Start your wrap tightly and pack the first few thread turns tightly against the tape.

Mudhole carries some graphite reel seats designed for surf rods. They are listed in the closeout stuff. They were designed to be moved along the butt and have locking rings designed to anchor the seat in a set location over cord or corktape grips. They adjust to fit between the 26 and 28mm range. Just be aware that they are pretty massive. Other than that, you might want to go with ALPS or PacBa

Epoxy for thread wraps is not the same as bonding epoxy. Thread wrap epoxy is a "paint." According to Tom Kirkman anyway.

As I understand EVA,it takes the stretching less,as opposed to hypalon. It may split on you if not reamed close to the OD of where it will end up on the rod. Use a reamer you make or buy,or get a 3/4" reverse pilot drill bit. If you care to,try a short,2" or 3" piece of EVA with the 5/8 ID to see how much it can stretch before it may split. Skip the epoxy. Then once you decide to r

It seems to me that a stripper guide being too tall can rob you of distance as well.

Grant is right. Hit the San Diego rodbuilders class on Tuesday night's. They won't steer you wrong. There is a tackle store on Barnett Ave. off of Midway Drive that carries some wrappers,or used to anyway.

Unless you actually need the blank to be 5'6" long, why not just chuck the blank in a rodbuilding lathe by the tip,and gently sand the butt to fit the ferrule on the Unibutt? The wall thickness of the butt is such, that it allows for such practices without sacrificing strenght.

Michael,I am not saying that shaking your bottle of CP is wrong. I have found that using a spade type of drill bit (with the tip ground off) and chucked in a drill is a better way to remix acrylic types of CP. Do what works for you.

www.mudhole.com/search?keywords=Reverse pilot drill bit These may better suit your budget. On a personal note,I use old rod blanks. I simply tape off a spiral and then coat the gap between the tape with contact cement and let dry. I cut strips of sandpaper to match the width of the gap. The backside of the sandpaper is then coated with contact cement, again, allowed to dry. When both the blan

From what I recall of them,no. They were best suited for 80# and maybe pushable with 100#. Your best bet is to find a set of Mildrum straddle leg roller guides on the bidding websites. They pop up,but it is very rare. That will keep the build more old school,as you seem to want. Then again,so will Aftco roller guides in chrome. If you are using a modern era blank, check out the offerings from Bats

I have yet to see or handle that reel. Most in that size range found in Denver stores are typically level-winds. The main concern, first and foremost is height from the blank to the bottom of the guide ring. Does it provide adequate clearance of the line over the foregrip? Especially when flexed while trolling in a line holder in an elevated position. Does said stripper guide allow clearance over
