I never purchase reels that the manufacturer praises are the lightest available , i like a certain heft to my reels and the rod i tend to use it with is a determining factor in my choice after it's design intentions and purposes of course. On my 10 foot to 12 foot surf rods i always opt for reels that weigh in the range of 18.5 - 23 ounces. On my 8 foot and 9 foot inshore rods that i built u

Good question which i don't know the answer to but what i do is just buy winding checks with a smaller diameter than where i know i'm going to position it , always turns out to be a very snug fit . Kind of like i do a butt cap , i never glue them on , i push them into position and thats it , when i have tried to remove it you would think it's epoxied on there , a total nightmare to get it off

I need all the luck i can get so thanks for the gesture , going to take a stab at this one. This is a question i would typically ask in hoping Roger Wilson would chime in and answer. My guess would be for appearance but remember i'm the student attempting to answer the masters question even though the master already knows the answer to his own question but is interested in hearing others take

Actually not the case , i have two rods that are SC II material, one rod made with the

Your initial thread asked people what their opinions were on how they held up for the people who have had personal experience with Winn Grips and as expected you got a bunch of varied responses . Sounds like the experiences given were not what you wanted to hear , i don't recall anybody saying they're not capable of being used on rods purposely fished in saltwater . Of course when anybody

Rogers suggestion of a 7- 8 foot blank is critically important if casting distance is a needed attribute , i have found 8 feet to be the ideal length for great distance in a variety of conditions. I used to fish 7'6 foot rods but was blown away how much better an 8 foot rod casts ..

One of the biggest reasons i like and fish St. Croix blanks is because they typically have more power and a faster action than many competitors blanks which are rated similarly, when the word "Whippy" is tossed around St. Croix is he last rod manufacturer i think of lol. They do have seemingly endless choices though so you can be sure they have models rated for every application , i'

The overwhelming majority of builders these days choose either the Microwave guide system by American tackle or Fuji's KR concept for all types of rod builds and for very good reason , i had to be convinced myself by members here but when guys who have decades more experience building rods than you do say that they were blown away by the way their rods performed with these two choices i listened

I myself and many others have been relentlessly trying to find the original "Quick Grip" shrink because it was incredibly durable and had a neoprene sticky type feel to it . I have been somewhat OK with Mudhole's shrink until the last batch i received , i just attempted to apply it over the weekend and it didn't shrink much at all compared to my previous purchases from them so i will

I had a rod that i just wrapped make some noise when i first starting to fish it , i was pretty sure it was the guides since the epoxy was about a week old and had not been flexed since wrapping it . I just thought it to be a normal occurrence , i'm not certain though.

OK , here are a few examples of why i asked about what people thought about the NFC blanks they received on this particular board : * " I was kinda interested in the 8' MB HM blanks , that is till i checked them out in person at a fishing show at the beginning of the month , i'll definitely pass" * " I was originally interested in the MB 806 HM , at the Batson Boot
