Also if the cork sticks to the rod, because of the glue, I use wing nuts I loosen one end and then tighten the other end and they break loose

13746. Re: Uh-oh, epoxy cracked
Did you taper the guide feet well? Some times it helps to have the feet taper very slowly. I say some times The guides may not be flexing as much as the blank Could try to take the guide off, retaper it and see if that stops the cracking??

If you can get the owner of the rod and have him place a say a broom handle, scrap blank, and hold it as if he is pulling in a fish, you can mark where his hand ( for the foregrip ) sits, then have him act like he is reeling in a fish to find out where the reel will be. Now you know the measurements of the seat and foregrip and just measure from the bottom

This is one reason why a coat of clear should be put on the blank before the decals and inscription are put on. Gives one a better chance of " not " hitting the finish when taking it off

I make up my own colored cork rings. Can't see why it can't be done with burnt cork also. Just " toast " large chunks of cork dust to the color you want, mix some clear, thin, then add the cork. Poor into a mold, and Wa La

Check, then check again, when you think it's nice, check it again.
Also when putting on CP or Clear, baby sit the wrap a little while, the threads may move on you and you will have to adjust before it dries

If you don't put any thing infront of the seat it looks funky. So most put just one ring turned, epoxy shaped with a taper, epoxy with a little cork dust and then shaped, at least a little some thing

Scoffing the area before you start to wrap will also help the threads to not slide as much. And a little better bond of your clear

You can put the thread on the butt section of the blank before the handle and seat are on, to see what it looks like. You can also make up a color stick with pieces of scrap blanks with and without CP this way you know just what they look like
