No Foregrip?

I am planning to build a couple of rods without a foregrip. Does anyone know where I might find the acorn nut looking trim piece above the reel seat? I have seen this on several rods without a foregrip? I have started looking through the sponsors but decided this might be quicker. Thanks in advance for your help,,William Florence

Not sure what you are looking for. I've never seen anything like that. I do a lot of rods with no foregrip and build a ramp from the blank to the seat with 5 minute epoxy and wrap right up the ramp. It's easy. With the rod on the dryer, just put a glob of 5 min epoxy on the blank where it meets the seat. I raise the tip slightly to get a shallow ramp so I can wrap up it. As the rod turns, the epoxy will flow around the blank creating a nice smooth ramp (You may have to add another glob to get the effect you want) If you don't want to wrap it, add some pigment to the epoxy. When the Photo Page comes back up, check the pix that I have posted

Mike,
If you wrap under the epoxy with the color of thread that you want you can get the same effect with Flex Coat. Just wait a few minutes until it starts to thicken a little and then put more on and it will level out an do a nice job of ramping up to the reel seat and the whole ramp will look like it is the color of the thread under it.

Have seen some take half a graphite arbor, shape it to the winding check in the front for something that looks like you discribed.

William,

I've seen those Acorn nut looking pieces but can't remember where. If I remember I will let you know.

Mike,
You can build up the Flex Coat as high as you want until it fills in the opening of the reel seat all of the way ups to the threads.

Emory,

I'm having trouble picturing it! If the thread is down on the blank, what covers up the space between the blank and the top of the seat? Am I missing something??

If you don't put any thing infront of the seat it looks funky. So most put just one ring turned, epoxy shaped with a taper, epoxy with a little cork dust and then shaped, at least a little some thing

Mike,
I am a little dense. Now I understand your question. Yes there should be something, preferrably the same color, in front of the reel seat. It is not necessary but does look better particularly if the gap is large. I have used a large plastic winding check.

Thanks for all the suggestions, I will experiment with them. The item I was refering to looks like a black acorn nut. The O.D. matched the O.D. of the reel seat and I believe it to be epoxied on. I believe it to be a nut from a electrical wire seal that has been opened up to accomadate the blank. I saw these on a couple of rods while visiting several tackle stores. I have been looking for something other than a winding check and this item caught my eye because it had a clean look. Again thanks again for your reply!!
