I've only done two of them so far and have always done a dark thread on top (one dark blue, one black). I have seen some that look more subdued (less contrast, not as bold) with the lighter color on top. I think...

I just finished wrapping 3 of these for some kids for Christmas and follow your thoughts exactly. They're a really nice blank for this. Thanks to Bill Batson for steering me at them, too.

Put a piece of masking tape around the blank. Mark the spines you've found A and on the other side, B. Set a marble on the floor. Push down on the tip. Push it down 10 times. Use the side that comes up most as your spine. One side will most likely be more prominent than the other; stiffer.

Buddy, I really believe strongly in what you've said; remembering Roberto Duran, I call it "hands of stone". Some people just cannot feel a light bite with the best of rods and they sure can't tell the difference between a poorer rod and a good one (just talking sensitivity).

Yes, they're still making wrapping threads but have cut back on some colors, etc., that are available.

It doesn't matter which you use, just put it on thin with either one of them, Don.
You can put just as thin a coat with a high build finish. You can't make a thicker coat with one coat of a thin, regular build finish.

Wish it were my own idea; gotta tip the hat to Bruce Vetre on that one. He told me of his use of that idea.

Put a 2nd light coat over only the wraps that you can feel the threads on; best if done within 48 hours of the first coat, Don.

I agree with Bill; I think the title of this post is tongue in cheek OR just for one person's style of building. Cork can't be beat for cold weather, especially.
There is the possibility of putting those little hand warmer/heat packs inside the fiber handles (leaving the butt cap so it can be removed). Other than those, cork is the go-to material as far as a sensible material for the rods tha

If it were me, I'd run it through the CCS measurements and then check it against the entries on the CCS Data Site, Greg. Top links on the left (Common Cents Info and CCS Data Site).

Whoa!! Too technical for ol' prairie kid here... There's humid when I don't hardly have to move and I'm sweating, there's that inbetween, where I really can work hard and just sweat a bit, then there's dry... like last night, when my 2 year old grandson and I were playing his favorite - toss him in the Lazy Boy and rock him fast while he rolls all around belly laughing. His 3 inch-long thin, blon

Have you had much problem with it drying quickly enough, even when it's fairly low humidity?
We typically have very dry winters here and it still seems to act about the same for me is why I'd asked. I really haven't seen too much change in time of drying. It sure is fast at setting up!!

More likely the hot solvent in the PG did something with the pearl thread. CP would still most likely fix the problem, though.
Edit: Got thinking on this; I've not used the pearl metallic (but do have it) and I've read somewhere that it does tend to go transparent with finish on it. Most likely wrong what I'd said above...

I grew up in Medicine Lake and played football on that dirtpile of a field in Baker several times; wrestled against the Mosers, too.

Must've grown up in eastern Montana with pike and bullheads. I grew up in Medicine Lake (far northeast corner).

Sam asked me to post this here for him:
I pay taxes on all rod sales. The IRS has known about me for a while, at least since I trademarked Shields River Rods in 2004 and have my local and state business licenses.
Thanks.

Likely, the heat needed to break the Rod Bond down in order to remove the tip top would be about equal or very close to the adhesive's same break temperature used in the rod blank's manufacturing process. If you need to remove the tip top, just use a Dremel and cut just through the barrel of the tip top in a couple of places and gently pry it off in lieu of using heat-type removal methods.

109. Re: Epoxy creep
I haven't tried it with foam (EVA, hypalon, etc) grips as I don't use this on the walleye rods that I build, but in the past, I've used plumber's Teflon tape as a great way to mask off where I don't want epoxy to go. It's a fantastic masking material for a couple of reasons. First, it stretches and can conform to irregular shaped surfaces such as the threaded barrel on a reel seat. Second, it has

Never thought about the promotional end of it, I guess. Nothing at all wrong with that idea, Harold. It's bound to help out other rod builders.
From a personal standpoint, I'm a lot like Stan above... ho-hum. Sure wouldn't interest me enough to vote on them. Love looking at other guy's built-up rods, though. But competitive rod building? Nope; no interest in that at all. And again like Stan, I

On ferrule split out and wrapping... gotta tell on myself here.
I began building rods in 1981. A few years later a fella moved here to Williston. He LOVED fly fishing and I'd never done it. I ordered a two-piece Pflueger graphite blank and built myself a fly rod. I was just starting building, remember...
This fella and I became good friends and fished for about 4 years together; the new rod

I believe the CC vapors are heavier than air? Pilot lights along the floor are where those vapor concentrations will reach the LEL quicker than higher up in the room(s).
It's probably near minus 10 wind chill here (maybe lower); snowing and blowing like crazy. I'll wait for warmer weather before setting up my hobby lathe to do some grips. :>)
