Great job, Jim.
You'll need to move the pics to the picture board, though, and delete the ones here or the post will be deleted soon.
Again, really nice job. Terry inspires lots of people!

It sounds like the finish wasn't completely set. I know that you waited all that time, but possibly it wasn't mixed right or maybe wasn't going to harden completely. Was it tacky at all when applying the Microset before putting the waterslide on?
I've had Microset lift finish that wasn't fully cured a few times, now.

I just use metallics; never had a problem with Sulky threads repelling finish and don't use CP on guide wraps, either. On the Madeira metallics, I've gone to one thin coat of Diamondite before putting the 2nd coat of epoxy on. It hasn't repelled the Diamondite for 3 rods now...

I pretty much use black metallic on the top thread on nearly every one of the Moire's that I do anymore.

I set the PG on top of the tunnel area and saturated it and kept adding more to the area. This was with the rod stationary. I did the same to the other tunnel and then finished the guide wrap. I then cut the wrap off to check the progress the next evening. That's when I discovered that it won't penetrate through the thread to the blank and needs to be played with at the tunnel opening. I just hav

LOL! I use a 2RPM turner and get good results with it. I know that faster might be easier, but after 26 years of using the same turner, I kinda got used to it...

I'm going to bring my old Windows 98 computer, screen, keyboard, and one of my Alps MD 1000 printers with.
Will be good to see you again, too, Tim!

LOL! Yeah, Tim, I'll be there again and give 3 seminars; marbling, Alps & waterslide decals, and Moire wraps (with Doc).

I'd use bands of threads and epoxy over and between these thread bands. Use them for spacers/shims.

Is this green surface a glossy finished surface? If so, it can be put right on top of that. If it's not glossy and smooth, then I'd put a coat of finish or PG down first.

I have a guide wrap that I applied PG to and then cut off. The PG does NOT fill the tunnel by simply applying it to the top of the wrap. It soaks through to the backside of the thread and stops there, leaving the tunnel open. That's why I don't use it on guide wraps personally anymore. I still use it on other-than-guide wrappings to seal things up until I have time to epoxy it.
It's said the tu

Doc's first passion, helping others, motivates me. As does Stan Grace's and Mark Blabaum's. Very generous, giving people!! Many others to add to the list, but these three jump out at me right now.

Thanks, Jim. Reading what you just said above after my first use of the Diamondite finish really reinforces what I learned that first time.

Guys, lets sit a minute and think about some of this... dessicant packs or frost-free refrigerators aren't going to remove the moisture that's already inside a sealed container. When the moisture is in there and the lid is tightened, ain't nothing going to suck it out of there...no matter who told you "it works for me".
Maybe the guy crawls inside his 0% humidity fridge to pour some

I can also give a link to the colored background, clear waterslide material so that you can see the white printing over it before putting the decal on the blank.

The MD 4000 wasn't set up to print in white. Only the MD 1000, 1300, and 5000 print with the white cartridge from the factory.
You can possibly "fool" it into printing white by using a black-in-color file, choosing "monochrome text" (black cartridge only) in the pop-down color list, and putting the code decal off a black cartridge (0) onto a white cartridge (has code "

You shouldn't need to cut it off, I wouldn't think. Some gentle heat while pulling on it with a plier should save the 3/8" of blank.

I can see on a moderate or slow actioned rod where you might want to do that (get the line to the underside quickly).
That said, I do have two personal custom 9' moderate action rods (they're actually fly rod blanks I made into some trolling rods) set up with the 0, 60, 120, 180 spiral that I've used for years now. They seem to work just fine. The line loads each guide at the chosen spacing an

I agree with the above; the smaller threads (I use a lot of Sulky metallics for these) look better to me.
I have done 3 threads on the bottom (A or the slightly smaller Sulky's) and instead of doing 3 threads of A on the top, I've done the A thread I wish to leave there and a D thread for a sacrificial with it (just to make it easier). That seems to work just as well as using two A threads for

Paul, I have done tons of them without it, too, and most all with perfect results. But not all... it's just a little bit of insurance that the odds are more stacked in my favor for a perfect one every time.
The micro set before placing the decal really aids in it not sticking so that I can move it around. I'm pretty light and nimble fingered, but sometimes, I push a bit hard and it likes to st
