182. Rod Lathe Motor
I have been designing and building rod lathes for several years now. My last lathe used an old sewing machine motor using the foot pedal that came with it and a dimmer switch you use on an overhead light in your house to give me finer control over the motor speed. It works OK, but still not the control I would like. I use 12V DC gear motors for my drying rack, also with variable speed control.

Can someone explain how to make one of these magnetic thread tensioner? Thanks.

187. Photo section login
Ok,
I log in to the forum no problem. Obviously since I can post a new message. Then I go to the photos section and attempt to contact a photo publisher, it asks for a login again. I use the same user name and password I use to login to the forum and it refuses to let me in. I try the lost password and it says it can't find my email address. Whats with all of this?
Thanks.

How do you determine the spine of a 4 piece rod. Do you determine the spine of each segment, which is what I would expect, or is there another way. What about the lower sections. I have not had too much luck finding the spine on these sections, but I feel it probably isn't too significant for these sections since most flex is in the upper half.
Thanks.

Ahh. An experimental, empirical solution. I can compute the modulus of elasticity, divide br the rod diameter at one of the harmonic points, add the value of helmholtz constant and arrive at an approximate lure weight. From that I can determine the line size by applying Newton's third law and a little quantum mechanics. All I need is to build my Cray computer to do the calculations.

I just purchased two blanks that I plan on building a matched set spinning/spin cast rods. Unfortunately the blank as no information on it and the supplied doesn't have any either. If it was a fly rod, no problem, I'd just use the common cents method to determine line weight.
Is there any way to figure line test, power, lure weight etc for a spinning rod?
Thanks.

196. Handle Trim Rings
I am new to this forum, but been building rods since about 1975. I build them as gifts mostly, but our TU chapter here in Omaha has just started a chapter of Project Healing Waters, and I am designing a rod for that group. I would like to build the handle from cottonwood bark and highlight it with burnt cork and colored trim rings of the Healing Waters colors. I have tried using the same mater
