721. Re: line stretch
Tom, this latest post of yours is hand in hand as to why I disagreed with your results of the worm slapping experiment.
An excerpt from my first post to this thread ..... "Slapping the worm is going to cause it to stop momentarily, and it will also increase the tension on the line momentarily. And you will feel that."
In the experiment you posed, you said the worm was being retr

722. Re: line stretch
As a bass fisherman, the majority of the type of fishing I do, relies on the ability to detect a bite, and the ability to feel what the bait I am using is doing, by feeling it through the rod in my hand. Without line to serve as the connection between rod and hook, I'm not going to be able to feel a bite, and I'm not going to be able to catch a fish.
While the sensitivity different line types

So I can't feel something ticking my line? I can't feel a blue gill slap my line where it enters the water? A rather common occurrence, not just for me, but I'd imagine for many other anglers as well.
I can't feel the ticklish feeling I sometimes feel when a ball of fry swims by my line and the line passes right through the middle of the ball of fry? I can't feel that?

Jeff, if you have a specific rod that you like for fishing certain lures, you would be doing yourself a favor by taking CCS measurements for IP and AA. Knowing those numbers will help you in selecting a blank that closely matches or duplicates the rod you really like.
Then you can look at the measured powers of the different rods you have and correlate that to specific bait groups. If you were

Tom. with all due respect, I'm not guessing here either. Nor am I stating theories. Slapping the worm changes the tension on the line. and you can feel it. You may not be able to feel it at distance, but I assure you that you can feel it when the fish is in 4' of water, 10 to 20' from your boat.
I have watched smallmouth bass in extremely clear water that were on beds come up and hit my bait

Aaron, thank you for the synopsis. I truly appreciate it. With the weights you're talking about fishing and the way the blanks load, it sounds as if my drop shot rod built on an NFC 6107 IM blank is along the same lines. It's IP 343 grams with an AA of 78 - 79. I love it for lighter weights and more shallow water. It's when I need to increase my weight to 3/8 oz when fishing the deeper water of

Tom, I have to disagree with what you said about not being able to feel someone slapping your worm as it's being retrieved in a swimming pool. Reason being, you pretty much outlined why you could feel it, with your most recent post.
Slapping the worm is going to cause it to stop momentarily, and it will also increase the tension on the line momentarily. And you will feel that. The better the

You also might want to look at a couple of offerings from Rainshadow. I have a lot of experience with a rod I built on the Immortal IMMC72MH blank. It's an awesome blank with plenty of power for the size baits you're talking about, and sensitivity is excellent. It will flat move fish on a hook set. It does have one down fall though, and that is that it is not a well balanced blank. I don't think

729. Re: Too many guides?
To answer the question, has anyone ever broken a rod because of too few guides ..... yes I have. It wasn't one of the rods I've built. It was an old (it wasn't old at the time it broke) Shimano 2552 fighting rod. I can assure you I was not high sticking the rod at the time it broke. I can't be sure, but I probably had 10# test Berkley Sensation line on it, and I had hooked what looked to be about

730. Re: Too many guides?
Contrary to what Phil just said. less is not always more if performance is your goal.
One of the performance attributes of a fishing rod, is how the rod handles the stress involved in fighting and landing fish. Too few guides can cause the blank to over flex between guides, which could lead to broken rods. Adding a guide or two, will enable the line to more closely follow the natural bend pro

Deliberately obtuse to elicit a response. That is all this is guys. There have been more than adequate explanations how knowing the ERN can help in the blank selection process. Yet this kind of thing persists.
Just quit playing his game, and hopefully this kind of stuff will fade away.
But I like many of you know ........ it won't go away. It will just get more ridiculous, someone will ta

Chris, I agree skill has a lot to do with skipping a beaver under a dock. But if you're doing it with a bait cast reel, the Shimano DC reels sure help LOL

Fished with my new glasses for the first time today. On the water at 6:15 AM. Overcast and sprinkles of rain first thing in the morning, transitioning to a broken cloud deck, and then mostly sunny conditions. The new glasses are fantastic. I tad darker than the VR28 polarized lenses in my Monster Dogs, but I could still see better into the water with the Prizm Shallow Water lenses in the quite lo

Jeff, definitely a factor. Especially if you are passing leader knots, or fishing in freezing weather conditions.

Earlier I wrote that I had decided to order replacement lenses for my older Oakley Half Jacket sunglasses, in lieu of ordering a new set of sunglasses. Well, that didn't work out as I had hoped, at least not from where I ordered the replacement lenses from. The lenses I received were too large. I contacted them and let them know they didn't fit and their customer service is excellent. They offere

I'm just curious? When someone asks a question on how to remove a reel seat or replace a broken guide, what is the number one suggestion given by the members of this site? Would it be to use heat to see if they can get it to soften the epoxy to make removal easier?
I'm not saying that the things that Mark laid out above aren't possibilities, or even the culprits. They very well may be. Butt h

You can find a conversion formula for upper and lower lure weight casting ranges in part 1 of the Common Cents Info in the upper portion of the left hand column. It will require you to do CCS tests using and counting pennies. Other than that, it's pretty simple to do. I have tried using it with a few of my rods, and the numbers I came up with weren't to far off from what the blank manufacturers r
