I do not grind the foot of any guide that will be used in salt water. Jim, I am looking forward to trying these CC guides. If I remember correctly you had a few samples at the ICRBE in Feb. and they looked great. When will they be avaible for sale? What is the material used in the Fazlite ring? Still do not know why Fuji discontinued the titanium/Alconite guides. Norm

Using a fluorocarbon leader with a fluorocarbon running line makes little sense to me. Get rid of the leader and the knot and your problem will go away. If you want to use a leader then switch to braid as your running and connect your leader suing an FG knot. The FG knot is not only the strongest leader to braid connection but also the smallest, allowing the knot to easily and silently pass throu

I don't think you would have any problems skipping baits within a 6'10" rod. The extra fast tip will actually be of benefit to you for what you want to do. I have used rods from 6' to 7' for fishing around docks and piers and like extra fast rods for this. Skipping a bait is all in the wrist no matter the length of the rod, the extra fast tip makes it easier to accurately wrist snap a cast.

If you do use KW guides on your knife jigging rod, here is a blog by Jim Ising dealing with KW reduction guide groupings based on height. For running guides you could use either double ft KW or single ft KT/KB guides. Norm

There is no set distance for the length of the handle. Some like longer handles some like them shorter. Handle length is one of things that make a custom rod custom. For most freshwater rods the length from the butt of the rod to the butt end of the reel seat is usually somewhere from 8" to 11". For short one handed casting rods this length can be as short as 5", and for longer r

Sorry, think of it as height of from blank to the base of the ring. The ring of the KW8 is closer to the blank than the ring of either the RV6 or KW10. Fuji found that this extra height helps to better control line waves and line slap coming from the reel, that is why they recommend the KW10 or RV6 for a KR casting rod. The second half of this video concerning a KR casting concept will explain m

Since it is a casting rod it's the height at the bottomed the ring that counts not the overall height, which is important for a spinning rod. The height at the bottom of the ring is the same for both the RV6 and the KW10. Jim Ising corrected me on this point previously, and I thanked him for that. Normy

RV6 and KW10 have the same height profile, so the RV6 can be replaced with the KW10. For a KR casting rod Fuji recommends a KW 10 (or RV6) as the stripper followed by a KW5.5 as the transition guide and KB/KT runners in a size of your choice. Have made casting rods using either KW 10 or RV6 strippers and both perform very well. Norm

Well try the graphite blanks at Anglers Roost, they have some very inexpensive blanks and components. The PacBay Tradition II kits are in the price range So is a Rainshadow RX6 kit. Norm

You did not mention length or number of pieces, but for the money it is extremely hard to go wrong with an American Tackle Matrix fly rod blank. Norm

A KB/KT 4.5 should work fine. I also use an FG knot for my line to line connection with no problem even when using a size 4 KB/KT. If you feel uncomfortable about it you can always use a size 5. All of my spinning rods now use the KR concept, I really like it a lot. The articles in the library describe the older NGC set up. Anglers Resource does a nice job of describing the KR concept. You can us

I agree with Jim. For the rod you want drop the NGC using KL guides and go with the KR concept using KL-H guides. The KR concept is based a rapid line choking using high frame small ring reduction guides Like Jim I would use a KL-H 20 as the stripper placed at 19" or 20" depending on whether you are using braid or mono. This would be followed by KL-H 10 and KL-H 5.5 for reduction guide

To me Gudebrod was just thread, nothing special about it. I have used must brands of rod wrapping thread (not embroidery thread), and find them all about the same. Never really had problems wrapping with any of them. Norm

I agree with everyone that Fuji K guides are very well engineered and do perform as advertised, and for most rods I build they are my go to guides. However, for light rods the Minima guides work extremely well due to their lightness which gives a light rod a very light and responsive feel In my opinion both the Fuji KL-H and Minima M guides used in a reduction train are super in function to th

I had the exact same thought as Tom. I have repaired a number of GLX bass rods and none of them had an under wrap. This would lead me to think that the guide had be replaced previously. There is really no need for an under wrap. Like you, I have never used an under wrap on a bass rod. Norm

As both Jim and Tom state the slope of the ring in a Fuji KR guide is only part of the engineering involved in achieving tangle free performance. The design of the frame in relation to the ring is also very important for shedding line loops. Even if you were to bend the ring of the ZV guides slightly forward without damaging it, the frame design is not even close to that of a KR guide. If you wan

I checked the mudhole site and the 5" super grade cork pistol grip was also out of stock. For future purchases, I would recommend against getting the kit, because you can pair the pistol grip by itself with almost any model of casting reel seat and fore grip of you choice (or lack of fore grip). This gives you more custom options than available with the kit. Norm

Chris - I believe it was your post that got me to try Permagloss again. Thanks!

Since Permagloss is catilyzed by moisture in the air, the best way to store it is to keep it away from humid air. Some people put it in a metal can that is sealed with a screw in the bottom of the container. When they want some they loosen the screw and let out what they need. Never tried that method. Permagloss suggests storing it in an air tight container in the refrigerator. The reason is that

Do you keep it in the refrigerator? I have found that cold Permagloss is more viscous than warm Permagloss. I store my Permagloss in an airtight container with desiccant in the refrigerator. Keeps for a long time, may seem thick but still works fine. Norm

Paul - I agree with Tom, your problem is due to something else. There is no better way to measure epoxy then the use of syringes. They can measure very small amounts quite accurately. I routinely mix 0.5 ml or less of epoxy for repair jobs with no problems. The only reason I can think of to account for your poor success rate using syringes is that you may have used medical syringes, which are sil
