I've tried to log in at get bit a couple times today and my computer keeps warning me to not log in. Saying not a secure log in. Possible hacker breech. Never had that problem with get bit or any other site. Is anyone else seeing that message. Thanks

I agree with Philip. The most often used lure weight should fall about middle on the rod lure ratings. Will cast better and if you decide to put a little more weight on it will handle that as well. The albie snax soft plastics work but you should check out hogy epoxy jigs. They work awesome for albies and have a wide lure weight range. Good luck.

No noise from the minima guides....from my experience. REcoil stripper guides are the only guides I've used that make noise.

The above recommendation is a good choice, and rainshadow knife jigging blanks. Seeker Hercules blank (GTS70L) is worth a look as well. Seeker has a wider lure weight range. Good luck

Yes, customers like the minima guides on all rods. I even use them on surf casting rods. Most have never seen them before so they are a little hesitant but agree to use once they see I use on my own rods. No returns or complaints. Like I said earlier, wash with fresh water after using....everytime. Good luck.

I've never had my line stick to a snake guide, and I've caught some big stripers, blues, and false albacore. I don't use floating line so maybe that's the reason. If line connections stick to guides as they pass i flip the rod over so the line lays on the blank and passes without problems. Once it passes the guides roll the rod back upright and continue fighting the fish. Good luck

Miki, I use Ti minima guides on fly rods, spinning rods, bottom fishing rods in salt. I rinse with fresh water after every use and they hold up. I haven't had any negative feedback from customers as well. I prefer snake guides on my fly rods so I'll use RECoil or snake brand guides for the runners. Good luck!

Damn Tommy, chill out!!! I have to agree with Billy. You are taking this too far. It's not the end of the world. If rod building isn't for you move on, it's not for everyone. If you want help ask questions. Builders on this site are telling you it can be fixed, so listen. Good luck.

Phil, that's a good point. It depends on the technique you choose to employ. I can see a tuna rod working for stripers in my location when using a drift bucktailing method. We use 8-20 oz sinkers and fish 30-80' deep locations. The tide runs like a river so having a rod with lifting power is a must. Especially when the lure hooks a kelp covered rock. It's not my favorite striper technique but i

Paul, I speak from experience. I surfcast at least 100 times a year and i build lots of surf rods. I am also 6'1" and weight 220 and an 11' rod is overkill for me. You said you plan on doing a lot of bait and wait fishing which is good with a longer rod, because less casting means less fatigue. Another idea to consider is build a long bait casting rod and a shorter 9'-9'6" rod for pl

Try a spiral wrap. Works great with big fish. Especially those big stripers that run for cover behind rocks when hooked.

I would check out the rodgeek blank mentioned above and MIX blanks. Longer rods are great for big surf but I use no more than 10' rods and cast just as far as guys with 12' rods. Having the right blank for the casting weight makes a big difference. Good luck on your trip.

What type of surf fishing? Bait, plugs, tins, etc. What reels are you looking to use? What is the average weight you plan on casting? What is the target species? More information will make it easier to respond to your question. You should use the search function above. It's loaded with information.

I'm late to the party but fellas I have a question about the knot in the video don recommended. It's hard to see in video if he ends with a modified Albright knot or if the braid is tied to a single strand of leader. I tied what I think he's doing but it looks like an Albright knot. I appreciate any input. Thx

Mud hole has one in their clearance blanks right now. I think it's a 7'6" 2pcs 30-50lb 1-6oz lure blank. It's about 50% off. That might fit the build.

Check out fly tying sites. Some of the sponsors carry small feathers but the fly sites have many choices. Also craft supply stores are a good source.

I bought the CRB tool thinking it will help and if not it's cheap... no loss. I like all the ideas people are posting. The one I use the most is my shop light. I squared my lathe to the lights and when I stand over it the lights project a thin reflection down the blank. Makes attaching guides easy. They end up pretty close to perfect. After wrapping I take outside to do final alignment like other
