So I have someone wanting me to build them a surf rod on a SU1088F-2-MHX. It is 9ft MH and throws 2-5oz. I need some advice as I have only built bass rods before. What kind of guides should I use with this rod? It is going to be spinning. I just dont know if double foot is a requirement for this size, or what model guide or anything else to go with. He also wants Winn grips and a foregrip. I see

Thanks for the advice so far guys! I have never had a jerkbait specific rod before. I have thrown them before on a 6'6 medium fast. I guess I should probably stick to a fast or xf blank then, I am not sure I would like it so much on a glass rod or a slower rod in general. I guess my other question is do I use a normal xf blank or do I use one that is considered a popping blank? Is there any signi

Hey guys so I am looking to build a jerkbait rod soon. I will primarily be throwing Lucky Craft Pointer 100's on it which are 5/8oz, and Strike King KVD 300's which are 1/2oz. I am looking for a blank around 6'9. I am willing to cut a blank if I need to, but I would prefer not to. What would you recommend? thanks!

Hey guys so am building a rod that will be primarily used in freshwater, but at times maybe used in saltwater. I was planning on using Microwave nanolite guides. How does the chrome guides handle saltwater? I could use the blank ones, but I would prefer not to. Thanks!

Hey guys so I need some help on deciding on a blank. I have a guy that wants me to build him a spinning rod for trout. He will be fishing a Mirrodine suspending twitchbaits that is 3/8oz. He said he wants a 7 foot rod. The place where he fishes for trout also gives him a chance to hook into a red. So the rod also needs to be able to handle a larger redfish as well. I was thinking something like a

Hey guys so I am replacing some guides on a 7ft medium spinning Abu Garcia Veritas. I dont have the guides available to measure them as the rod's owner did not keep them when they fell off. They are the first two guides on the bottom end of the rod, closest to the reel seat. Also I am not very sure exactly what guides would be best to use as the replacements. Thanks for the help!

Hey guys so I was wondering how much of a difference there is between each of these materials, assuming of course they are in the same guide frame. I know sic is harder than alconite, and torzite is the hardest, but do they also get lighter as the price increases? thanks!

Hey guys so I have a guy that is wanting me to build him a rod. He fishes both salt and freshwater. He wants a 5'6 to 6' medium rod. When they fish fresh water he likes topwater, plastics, and crappie jigs. When he fishes saltwater he is using live bait or gulp on a jig head. He said that his lures usually range from 1/8-1/4 and he may rarely go down as low as 1/16. He also uses 12lb braid. He wa

Hey guys I just wanted to come back and say thank you again for all of the help! I ended up having 10 guides plus the tip. I am really happy with the way the rod feels now.

Thank you, but I am building a casting rod. I mainly want to know if it is common to use this many guides on a rod of this size? I am assuming also of course that because it is a mod-fast rod it will ne

Hey guys so I am currently building a shallow cranking rod. I am using a MHX CB843-Blend. I am using size 4 guides. So I ordered 12 guides with the rod, I thought that would be enough, but it looks like I need more. My question is does around 13-15 guides for a 7ft rod with 4mm guides on it sound like an ok number? It seems to me like all the weight I am saving by using microguides I will put rig

Hey guys so I was wondering if anyone could link me to a clamp for split grips. I have noticed that on the two rods I have put together so far that while they were drying the reel seat did not stay completely flush with the rear grip. I want to pick up a clamp that will help fix this, however so far I only have found clamps for full length grips. Thanks!

Hey guys I am still trying to figure out the sizes I should order. I am wondering if I need to order one more size guide for a transition guide? I would just try it myself but I do not have any suppliers around here and I have to order everything online. How should I actually go about finding the correct size of a butt guide? thanks!

Hey guys so my next build is going to be a 7ft squarebill crankbait rod. I was thinking that I would use a double footed 8mm butt guide and then use 4.5mm guides for the rest of the rod. I was concerned that I may need more sizes to ease the transition from 8 to 4.5, do I?
edit: I was thinking, if I use a locking wrap, is there a need for the butt guide to be a double foot? Do you ever build a
