A little off topic, but can anyone tell me how much higher a Shimano 4000 is than a 2000? I have a 2000 Sahara I am using to set up a rod right now; but I will also be doing another soon that I might like to use a 4000 on but don't know how much higher the spindle (center of spool) is off the seat.

I know you're poking fun, but I honestly haven't looked. Tom & I exchanged e-mails about this a while back and I have really appreciated how diligently he monitors the forum and the atmosphere he provides for us builders. On our home e-mail address about a year ago we began to get all kinds of junk. The ISP spamblocking software did a great job but it was aggravating to get it anyway. We

545. Here we go again!!
So why is the sight all of a sudden getting these porn postings (that's what I assume they are)? Does someone in a third world country just cruise forums looking to post links?

Do you lay it on its side after a while to stop the leaking and let it set up, or just leave it upright and it takes care of itself?

Okay, that makes sense. This is the shiny Forecast DB finish so I think I should be okay. It came with one fo the stickers already on it (in a place that will be covered by the grip) and it did not look cloudy before I took it off.

Tell me again why to use finish under the decal vs. just putting it directly on the blank.

549. Thanks for Charlotte
I just wanted to thank a few folks for a great show in Charlotte:
Tom for putting it all together the way he does.
Bob and Coach at the Custom Tackle booth - great advice and great prices.
Ray and Robert at FishSticks4u - they gave me some great deals on enough blanks to keep me busy for a while (without getting into too much trouble when I got home!).

I picked up an ISP843-3 in Charlotte and notice it came with decals that give the rod info. I think they look good and want to use one on the finished rod but have never finished over a decal before. Can I just clean the blank well, apply the decal, then finish of it with Threadmaster or Flexcoat? Will the decal have bubbles, assuming I apply it carefully and can't see any at the time?

Ralph,
I e-mailed you. In case you didn't get it, my e-mail is flyfishing@fellowshippres.org (today) or 6martins@bellsouth.net (this evening).

Will you be staying for the reception but then returning Saturday evening?

I might be interested in sharing the gas with somebody from Greenville. I was wanting to leave around 7:00 (be there when doors open) and would like to stay for the reception in the evening (so head back about 8:00, be home by 10:00).

How about hot shot and steelhead blanks (for light surf stuff)?

Pulling out fly rods in front of my buddies who are all using "store bought" rods, having folks walk up on the beach and admire the surf rods sitting in the tubes and then catching fish on all of them.

How will a size 6 or 7 BLAG work for the bumper? Too small? I ask because I happen to have a spare and it seems it would sit really close to the blank.

I was thinking about converting an AllStar Titanium 845MC-3 that I wrapped for baitcasting over to a spiral wrap. The good thing about a 3pc is that I can just turn the tip section to the bottom. There are no guides on the but section, so here is my idea for the middle section which is where the first two guides are. Can I put the first guide (BLNAG16) at about 1:00, the second guide (BLAG10)

I built on the Cascade (Rainshadow) RXF1085-3 recently - different blank but 9' 5wt 3pc like yours. I use 16 stripper, 12 tamer, 10, 7 then 6s. I would skip the 8 and get down to the small guides quicker. To me the 8 is a high guide, almost as high as the 10, and the 7 is so close to the 6 that I don't feel I get a good straight line path when I try to throw an 8 in. After my 10 I always get

It sounds like I was thinking like you several years ago when I built a rod along almost the same criteria. I also wanted to be able to take it on business trips and I ended up building on the AllStar Titanium 845MC-3, which I think designates "mag casting". I set it up casting and used alconite guides with #6 being the smallest. I use it to fish worms and other plugs for bass. It w

The other day I finally read the article on CCF and tested my two fly rods and was really surprised. Between a Lamiglas Perigee and Rainshadow RX8 I found the following:
Lami PF1025/6 - 8'6" 2pc, ERN 6.9, AA 62, CCF 90; 9 Alconite guides, #12sv stripper, #10sf, 7, rest 6s; Permagloss finish.
Rainshadow XF1085-3 - 9'0" 3pc, ERN 6.2, AA 67, CCF 80; 11 Alconite guides, #16sv strippe

Does anybody know the graphite modulus on the Perigees by Lamiglas, specifically one of the old PF1025/6 blanks (5/6 wt, 2pc) they made before discontinuing then reintroducing them?

I'm thinking about a 9ft 9wt option if that sheds light - bass, salt, etc.

Everybody seems to love the FTs. Dan Craft seems to recommend them more than any other of his blanks. I admit I just like the sound of the SigV (perhaps reminds me of my Perigee 2pc 5/6wt; or perhaps because I'm a poor caster and the FT is so fast). When would you just really opt for the SigV?

I would echo the previous. I often fish a Lamiglas PSB1202L with an ABU 6500. It is very light, throws 2-3oz a mile and has handled large fish. The PSB is the old Perigee blank that I bought on clearance, but I think the GSB mentioned above would be very similar, just a little lower modulus on the graphite.

Which blank would be best for tossing the 1/4 to 1/2 oz jig while watching kids play at the beach? I'm thinking the 8'3" to 9' range. How do you like the Rainshadows in 1024? 1083? 1025?

I didn't mean use it for steelhead in saltwater. Where I live (South Carolina), we wouldn't know what a steelhead is anyway. I'm thinking about steelhead blanks to use for light saltwater stuff - bombers, jigs, plastics, etc.

Has anybody built this one for a light saltwater spinning rig (might be made by AllStar or Cascade, I'm not sure which)? Any comments on the actual weight range when throwing light jigs and such? Seems like a light blank from the specs and I don't want anything too slow or too whippy. While I'm at it, does anybody know how light will the 1084 throw?

Grant,
I noticed from an earlier post that it looks like you have some experience with the Rainshadow ISA1355 and your e-mail was hidden so I had to post on the board. I recently acquired a 1355 on clearance. How would you set it up and how does it do casting? I was thinking about making it a light lure and live bait stick for the salt. Any thoughts?

Got one recently on clearance. Any thoughts on what it's good at? Thinking specifically about saltwater applications.
