I don't build boat rods, but I would think on something that heavy it would not matter at all. The bottom of the ring will probably still be close to the level of the blank.

On a spinning rod, where the line hits the running guide rings on the size farthest from the blank, I notice that the same ring size tip will never seem as tall as the running guides. I have figured that not to matter on a casting rod, since the line is started down usually upon passing the tip. On a spinning set up though, is there an advantage to upsizing the tip so that the outer edge of the

Thanks Tom; not complaining, just wanted to make sure I wasn't doing something wrong.

I have posted several rods and blanks in the last 72 hours or so and haven't noticed any showing up on the CC site yet. Am I doing something wrong?

So it's like a Chinese finger trap for rod builders.

They've been a super help and fixed me up with lots of good stuff too; and taken time to answer questions when I wasn't buying anything from them at all.

Does the 304 degrade in integrity, or just stain a bit in appearance?

That won't slip off under the weight needed to CC a fast 9wt?

If you want to CC just a blank, how do you attach your weight on the end w/o a tip being glued on? I would think it is going to be hard, particularly on a heavy weight fast action blank and I don't want to do anything that will damage the tip.

Has anybody noticed, when not using CP, that Permagloss ends up with the thread looking lighter than the same thing with epoxy? I had a noteable difference on a rod where I used PG on the guide wraps, but epoxy over the label and bordering wraps.

I use a Shimano 2000 series with limp 6lb mono or possibly Fireline. Do you think the 20 is big enough on ring size, assuming the height lines up with a concept layout?

I have the older RX8 905-3 (3 piece) and the built rod tested at: ERN = 6.22; AA = 67; CCF = 80. That was built using Alconites going from a size 16 stripper down to size 6 running guides.

Tom, I don't question your wisdom; I'm just trying to make sure I understand. If you are using a really fast action fly blank - say in the 70s like a Dan Craft FT or Lami XMG - what makes it different than say a Batxon RX6 steelhead blank. I haven't CCd it, but what do you suppose my SH1084 has for an AA? Part of why I'm wondering is that it seems someone could make really nice light saltwate

Tom, I guess my question has to do with how good a spinning rod it will make, not is whether I can or not. I'm thinking about a really short rear grip and using it to toss light stuff while standing in the surf during the summer - going after pompano, flounder, spot and whiting.

I've done some horse trading and look forward to getting a new Matrix 908-4 fly blank in the coming week or so. Wondering thoughts on a couple of things: Any advice on how to build it into a spinning rod? What colors and schemes do you like on these blanks?

I used the smallest size possible (I think 2/0) on a 5wt and it looks great. I actually used the TiC double footed version from Batson adn it looks awsome. Matches very closely to the blackened nickle-silver winding check I used right next to it.

I do that kind of fishing a lot and my main rod right now is a 1264 steelhead rod, which throws 1-2 oz great; however, it overpowers the whiting very easily. The frustrating this is that the rod needed to throw the weight has way more power than needed to fight the fish. Still, I have settled largely on steelhead blanks built into casting blanks for this kind of fishing. I also built a SH1084

Andy, your service way surpasses the amount of stuff I'm ever able to buy off of you! How would you compare the CTS stuff to the old BAST blanks?

I bought my BAST845MC-3 from you Andy. BTW, where is the best place to see the available CTS configurations online? Their official web site? I've tried to see what you have available but haven't been able to pull up prices or specs.

It seems like sense the All Star Titanium blanks went away that nobody is making 50+ modulus travel blanks, except for fly rods. Why is that? I have an old All Star BAST845MC-3 and love it.

I've read a post where someone thinks it's in the 50s; and another where someone says it is multi-modulus, combining 50s in the butt and 40s in the tip. Does anyone know for certain?

Is the risk of breakage reduded if you use more guides near the tip (within reason) to distribute the forces on the blank? I sure have held some blanks awfully high over the years and not had a problem; then again, maybe those were older fiberglass blanks. How do you get a fish into the boat by yourself, or real one onto a pier for that matter, without exceeding a 90 degree angle from the butt

I'm still not clear on how one blank - say a Rainshadow HS1021 - can throw a range from 3/8oz to 3oz. Isn't the max usually 2x to 3x the min on blanks? The listed ratings are something like 8x! Seems you would break it if you did anything more then lob the high end.

Practically speaking, how light a weight do you find you can throw with each blank? How heavy can you take each one? if it helps, I'm thinking about a versatile light surf stick and I've used steelhead blanks, but never a hot shot configuration.

That's awesome! I've been wanting one of those (never fished from a kayak before) to use around home and at the beach, but spend for too many $$ stoking growing furnaces to get one on my own.
