Hi Tom I think I will try your method for this one. I do want to try the PG over the wraps but I will try that on my own personal rod first. Do you use decals and do you use PG over them?

Hi Bill I am trying to avoid epoxy on the decals and the over run from my wraps onto the blank. When the epoxy starts to yellow it to terrible on a white blank.

Hi Tom That was on of the things I was going to try! I was going to try one coat of thin epoxy on a guide wrap only to the edge and not hit the blank. Then one or two coats of PG. Does epoxy have to be sanded before PG is applied. If so then it would be to much work.

Hi Phil Thanks for the reply. However Epoxy manufacturers would probably love to have non yellowing epoxy for floor coating application. But your right about our small rod industry! I will try the PG. I actually have a bottle that has thickened a bit. I will try a couple test wraps tonight.

Hi John Thanks for the info. But that post over 4 years old now. Hasn't there been any advancement in epoxy technology since then? Maybe not? Spencer I would be interested to read the thread you are refer get to.

That's actually funny Dan. But in all seriousness I personally like the look of white blanks and plan to build out 4-5 rods for my personal use at the cottage this year. Different rods for different species. So if I can find a technique that is better I would appreciate it. I don't sell rods I just build them for friends and family. I have built a few white ones and the edges of the wraps ar

Hi Spencer I understand. However talking to Tom earlier he mentioned that it takes several coats to build up the wraps and they end up looking like an eggshell effect. Not smooth like epoxy. I was just trying to see if anyone has any other technique that has had better success. I have Flexcoat UV I can use but I was recommended Aftcote by a builder in Florida. I have no experience with it.

Hi All, I am building on a white blank and I plan to use a few decals for the first time on a white blank. I am also using red for my wraps. It's a hockey theme build for a friend of mine. I have built on white blanks before and l am not very happy with how they look now because of the yellowing epoxy. I know yellowing is the nature of the beast with epoxy. Any suggestions to help prolong t

Oh, not sure I want a egg shell look. I don't have PG but I may have to buy some. If I apply it on the blank in the butt section can it be removed before I install the butt? I would like to try a wrap and see what it will look like.

Hi Tom, How many coats do you have to apply to the wraps? Have you posted any pictures of the wraps?

Hi All, Let me first say I know all Epoxy will yellow over time. I also searched the threads and read everything I could on yellowing epoxy topics. I was recently in Florida for a vacation and I stopped in a custom rod building shop to pick up a few things. I picked up a very popular brand of epoxy while there. I mentioned to the guy there that I was having a lot of issues building on white

Hi David, PLease post the pictures when they are available. I have a couple rods I wanted to refinish but I have always put them off because there never seemed to be a real good home solution to painting a blank.

I understand. But I live in Canada and having to ship across the border doesn't make sense to return it. Anyway I do not find it to be that big of a deal. I don't sell fishing rods for a living. This build is for a gift for a friend of mine.

My bottle was also never opened. I have read several times on this form the same issue. The product starting to cure in the bottle before it has ever been used. It's a good product I am sure but it seems you are taking a chance with it. This of course is just my observation and limited experience with the product.

Hi All, I am putting the final coat on a carbon grip I made (I have made several). This time I wanted to try Lumiseal since I had a bottle on my bench. I watched Tom'video on YouTube and I seamed pretty straight forward. When I opened the bottle it had a skim on top of the finish. After poking through I managed to pour some out into a cup. It was thick. Much like a light build epoxy would

Hi All, Thanks so much for the replies! Tom bought a bottle of Permagloss to try, but I am saving it for a second rod I have underway. It's a more important build :-) I have watched your video a couple times now. Herb I didn't mix up the ratios. I use syringes and have never had a problem. We are in a heat wave here in southern Ontario, 36C today with a humidex of 42C. May basement is ve

Hi All, I have a problem I am hoping I can get a positive answer to. I put a "final" coat of epoxy on the butt of a carbon fiber grip I made last night. I wasn't happy with the depth of clear coat so I wanted to add another coat. Because the grip had been sitting for 3 weeks I gave it a light sand with 800 and proceeded to add another coat. Well The darn thing had a couple fish ey

Hi James, I am interested in trying this Diamond Finish. How do you get the finish out of the can? Meaning once you open it how do you deal with the product left in the can setting up? There has been all kinds of post on here about other products setting up in the bottle. I just tried to use a brand new bottle of Lumiseal and it already had a hard layer on top. I had to punch through it to pou

Hi Andrew You can buy rubber tubing from some of our sponsors on the left. I know Mudhole sells it. You then cut it to the desired length you need. You can go to your local Orthadontist and buy the small braces elastics. Or possibly your local drug store.

Hi Jerry mybgrips are cherry red. I am trying to find a red rubber plug. I have poured my own epoxy caps in the past. I may have to do that for this build also. Problem is they scratch over time.

Hi Everyone, I am in the process of building a split grip carbon fibre grip. It's the 3rd one I have done now. I very much like the look and feel. I have two questions. 1. After wet layup how soon can you apply another coat of epoxy? 2. What are most people finishing the butt end off with? My grip save a very red colour so I was hoping to not use a black rubber cap. Thanks

I purchased small palettes to hold paint from an art store. I tint the epoxy and thn pour it into the holders. Once they set up I pop them out and they make a great little end cap for a carbon fiber grip. You can Color match it to the grip. Like these

Thanks for the offer John. I have an aunt that lives in Buffalo. I have decided to get things shipped there and I will pick them up when I go visit. Dennis I will check them out as I do go to London a couple time a month!

Hi Bill, I tried searching Google and only came up with two. One is our sponsor and the other one I already know and they really have nothing. Shipping anything to Canada is getting expensive, unless you are shipping in bulk. And I am not. Anyway I just thought I might be missing something but it seams I am not. Other than Don's email. Thanks everyone for your responses.
