Mike is truley a class act and I'm sadened beyond words to hear that he is not doing well. Mike has been an insperation to be for quite a few years and he is one of the folks I was so excited to finally meet at the one Expo I was able to attend in 2010. It was he who got me started creating & distrbuting rod building tutorials and gave me the idea for my Library website. I am going to spen

Try a scalpel it's far sharper. You will still change them often though. Also, a double edge old school razor blade is sharper than a single edge blade.

I have not heard anything about Bill closing the business and the website is still up with the same URL. I had a bit of the same darkening problem but only when I tried to rush things and not wait for it to dry completely.

My wife saw these nice looking pool cue cases at a Dollar Tree (99cent) store and brought a couple home for me to check out for rods. At first glance, I thought they could only be used for some Fly rods maybe but after seeing that the inside could be pulled out it seems like some spininning & casting rods would even fit too. Maybe not a good choice for a nice custom rod but for 99cents

I'll second the point of getting as much info about the end user's preferences about how, where, & what he targets most. It's really nice to give a rod as a gift but it can be disappointing to both the giver and the user if the rod isn't quite what he likes to use per the power, action, length, & such. That said, the only good advice about rod specs I can offer is...if he targets

I got an email from a user who won a rod in an @#$%& that he thought was built by me but it turns out that the rod was built by CTRS. I think I've seen that name here a few times and would like to find their contact info and forward it to the customer. THANKS!

On wide areas to cover like a butt wrap, decal, or what not, use a wider brush or other wide tool like a playing card to apply the finish. It isn't nessisarry but it helps some folks get an even application.

Ya got that right on Terry! I won a trout tournament using a shallow running W.Wart in 08. Kyle, You can copy a Storm W.Wart image and make your own decal but beware that you very well could be violating copy-write law in doing so without the copy-write holder's permission. Becareful what & where the image comes from or better yet contact Storm and I bet they send you an image or maybe

I just received a few rod blanks via UPS and it was obvious that the sender reads Rod Maker and took Bill Colby's article to heart. Ya know, sometimes those of us who submit articles and are fortunate enough to get them published, wonder if our work gets used by or is helpful to the readers. Clearly, Bill's article was taken to heart and used at least by one reader. Thanks Bill and Thanks

Maybe you can tell by the title of my post that I've been watching TV! LOL That said, how many of you have done some hillbilly/homeboy bartering to get what you needed to either build a rod or did some rod work to get something else you needed in return? Crafters and rod builders alike are some savy folks so I'm sure this will be an entertaining and informative subject. Back in the da

I'm sorry to miss that event again....Such a superb gathering and fellowship with an exclamation point on fellowship bar none. The Expo is a fantastic event but the Lamiglas open house is a completely different animal that should not be missed if possible.

That will happen with all brands of metallic thread if you use the "sewing machine" double disc type of tensioner but I have found that FishHawk metallics will take that tensioner better than most. As said above, tension the spool and not the thread and problem solved with any brand though.
