Hi Karl,
You may want to use the locking wrap (an article is in the library above) on the small guides to keep them in place. I have had small guides pull out in the past, but not since using a locking wrap.

You can turn the top section down, making a spiral wrap. If you have small guide for a bumper, you could put it at 90 degrees, but you could also let the line rub on the blank. When I was young my dad's casting rod handle was like a spinning handle. It was a telescoping copper rod that had nothing like a trigger. They were commen in our area at the time.

123. Re: alignment
Hi,
If you use a Tennessee type handle (one that you taped the reel on), you could bevel the underside towards the angle that you like.

Hi,
I got the 6' rod blank as a door prize at the Michigan rod builders Round-Up. I got a Fuji spinning handle (donated by Swamland) and a grip as door prizes from my brother-in-law. I used a # 8 KLH (size 10 KLH might have worked better if I had one),then size 5.5 single foot to the tip (these I ordered from Utmost, and am happy with the service). I did the static guide placement, and test ca

I have an older St. Croix (Fuji casting reel seat, I believe) and recent cabela's (like the Fuji) two piece rods that I have done spiral wraps on that work well with the Zebco omega reels. The cabela's rod came with one of the Zebco reels mounted on it, and it casted well with the original set up as well.

Hi,
I got the 6' rod blank as a door prize at the Michigan rod builders Round-Up. I got a Fuji spinning handle (donated by Swamland) and a Winn tour grip (donated by Victor Heale) as door prizes from my brother-in-law. Hi,
I am thinking about making a rod to work with a Pflueger 1810 trigger spin. The reel comes with 10 lb. monofilament. The line opening is 12mm. I think that I would start with a size 16 (aprox. 12 mm ID) or Kignan equivalent. I would probably use size 5 or 5.5 running guides. With the line already choked through a 12 mm opening, could I start with a size 12 KLH with out any problem? Is it po

My brother-in-law and I had a good time yesterday. The seminars were all interesting. I build for my personal use, and was glad to see the seminar on ultralights and basic guide set up and to hear the discussion in these groups.

129. Re: Locking Wraps
Once while fishing I had a single foot guide come loose (I believe the flex coat was too old). Once was too much. I used a backup rod the rest of the trip. Since then, I use the Forhan locking wrap. I only build rods for myself, and the locking wrap takes so little extra time and energy.

I have used silicone tape (Tommy tape) for several years with no problems. At Home Depot it is sold as stretch and seal in the plumbing section.

You might try tommy tape (silicon tape sold at Home Depot under stretch &seal name). I have cut rigs off before and ten secured the reel with the silicone tape, and it has worked ell for me.

I have had the best luck using tape to get the micro guides to the position (static load test) then I use elmers glue to hold the guide in place while wrapping. However I have to keep presure on the guide for about a minute before the glue will hold it by itself. This works for me, but I only wrap a few rods. It would not work for a lot of rods.

Thanks for all the info. I originally tried the spiral on this 2 piece rod by putting a transition (bumper?) guide on the tip section (just above the ferrule) and turning the top section upside down. This fished well enough, so now I am doing a proper spiral. After reading Tom's static guide article in the library and the one on the Angler's Rsrc site I tried the 4" from the tip spacing. Thi

I asked the same question on a different forum. I was told that they are the same as the minima 3. I ordered some from netcraft and used them with an aluminum oxide tip. I have not fished them a lot yet, but no problems so far.

Hi,
I am replacing guides on a cabela's spincasting rod. It is a medium light 6' rod. I am trying a spiral wrap with static guide spacing. My second from the tip, third and fourth guides are not progressively larger spacing. Is this what usually happens with static guide spacing?
Thanks,
Gary

Hi,
In the past I always installed and removed (the only way I know to remove) tips with heat. With the smaller tips the heat is getting closer to the ceramic, which is glued on. As some of the factory tips are glued on, I am wondering if the amount of heat (needed to remove the 5 minute epoxy) used will weaken the glue to the ceramic ring?
Thanks
