Hi,
I am wondering if the alps XPBMKLG mini is the same size frame , physically, (in 3 and 4) with just a larger hole to fit the larger size 4 ring?
Thanks,
Gary

I would like to see more 2 piece blanks in the 6 to 6 1/2 foot fresh water catagory.

Hi Ryan,
If you do build the spin cast rod, you would be able to start with a stripper guide the same size or smaller than the line opening on the spin cast reel. This might simplify your guide selection. Hope this is helpful.

Hi,
I saw this, and am interested on any thoughts about these blanks.
this reminds me of the old ugly stick demonstrations.

Mark,
You can use small strips of masking tape to hold guides in place till you figure out the guides final position.

Mark, if I remember right, match frame guides were originally used on ultralight rods for casting distance. I am probably wrong, but the idea was to keep the line away from the rod blank even at the tip of the rod. This was supposed to increase casting distance on these rods. This is what I remember from past reading.

Hi,
I agree with Tom that it might be a good idea to talk about the looks of a spiral wrap with your business partner. The spincast rods that I have built or rewrapped have taken little or no time to get used to the looks.
I usually try to make the first guide from the reel the same size as the size of the line aperture of the reel and then develop the spiral from there.
Good luck

Hi,
I needed to work on some guides on personal rod that gets roughly treated (grandkids, wading). I noticed I was out of thread wrapping finish, so I went to a local fishing shop. They had head cement lure and jig finish. They said that they used it on spring bobbers for ice fishing rods and it had held up well for them. So I took it home and tried it on the guide wraps. It looks good. I have

On the tackle tour ultralight forum they mention fishing rods with graphite solid tips, from Japan. I was wondering if anyone knows of a source for solid tip graphite rod blanks. Also has anyone here had any experience building or fishing this type of rod blank?
Thanks

this is a link to some videos on spring bobbers. I have been using a spring bobber mounted on the side of the blank. It is mounted so that the eye of the spring bobber comes to the blank just before the tip guide. It works o.k., and can be bypassed so that you can just use the blank. I normally use a very light blank with red tip and gold line for my fishing, so the rod with the spring bobber is

I have used a St. Croix 3S70MLF2 (with 1/32 oz jig + plastic minnow, and heavier lures with 4 lb. test mono), and a 2S60ULF2 for a long time. They have worked well for my purposes. So I think the 2S70ULF mentioned above would work well for you.

I have built one rod for an under spin reel. I used a high frame single foot spinning guide that had the same diameter as the line opening in the reel. I was able to go from there right to the running guides.

Tried to search CCF, but could not find. Looked in glossary for CCF, no luck. Can you explain or tell me where to find an explanation of CCF?
Thanks

Thanks Michigan Rod Builders for hosting the rod building seminar. The subjects that I listened to were good.It was nice that so many sponsors contributed to the raffle. The food was excellent. Also it was nice that John Powell came and presented on decorative wrap centers.

I have used kroil for maintaining guns. I think that if you already have the kroil it would definitely be worth a try, however I would apply a couple of times over a period hours (better yet days).

The razor blade method, as Tom stated, works well for me. But I do not do very many rods like this.

You might want to make sure there is enough handle behind the reel to place his other hand to steady the outfit while pushing the button.

If the rod was a 2 piece you could do a spiral wrap with a bumper at about 90 degrees. Then you could do the static load on the upper section. Then in the future, if you decided to use a spinning reel you could exchange larger guides for the first couple of guides, and turn the top section to align with the handle.

Joe,
I notice that the CP4CT comes in a size 6 ring for the smallest. Do you go from the minima 4's to the size 6 tip because that is the smallest available in that style, or am I misreading something?

In the catalog the tich/ tich and the chrome/ chrome are listed 4. The others including the titanium are listed with the 3 in the number.

I have used the full and split grip handles on ultralight to medium/ light rods up to 6-1/2' long. Right now I use a split grip with full diameter (1-1/4 to 1-1/2") cork rings. I attach the reel with silicon tape ( tommy tape, stretch and seal ). This has been the most comfortable for me to fish with.
