By using epoxy paste as a lubricant, the 11/16" ID hypalon will easily stretch over a 7/8" OD.

Greg,
I use spirals for canyon tuna fishing without level wind reels. It's usually necessary to "thumb" the line onto the spool. However, I'm right handed so I spiral my guides to the left around the rod and keep the stripper just left of 12 o'clock when laying out the wrap. By doing this, the line does tend to favor the left side of the spool but, I find that it is easier to p

I've had some luck "pirating" images from internet searches then scaling them to the ideal size and inkjet printing them onto decal paper. It doesn't always work because some images don't print bright enough for darker blanks. Sometimes I print on white decal paper then carefully trim the paper to an attractive shape for use on darker blanks. If you have access to a photo quality pri

Does anyone know roughly how long shipping would be from Matagi to East Coast U.S.?

Thanks for all the replies. Roger, I'm gonna use a green blank and I think I wanted to use a yellow seat for contrast, however, I just found some yellow EVA that might provide enough contrast and I'm considering that green seat. Ron, I'll give you a call on Monday.

36. Yellow reel seat
I'm working on a John Deere theme rod for a Christmas gift for a young man. I was wondering if anyone knows where I can buy a yellow or pale gold, trigger reel seat.

Depending on the finish of the blank (glossy or matte), it is advantageous to put a thin coat on the blank BEFORE you apply the decal. I always do. If you don't, the decal looks "cloudy".

Keith,
I too had trouble reading the AT chart for guide spacing until some fellows on here simplified it for me. Start from the REEL FACE. The most important thing is that the first guide (stripper) is 19 1/2" from the reel face. The second, 30 1/2". And the third 39 7/8" from the extended reel face. I just space the rest of the running guides equidistant between the third gu

Terry,
I've never played silk. Just haven't taken the time. I guess I didn't try silk because, from what I've read here, I've gathered that the silk would be transparent. I didn't want to be able to see the guide feet thru the thread. Is this true? Would I see the guide feet thru silk wraps?
Thanks,
Jon

Just wanted to share some experiment results: A friend requested some "ghost" colored wraps on a gloss black blank. He's looking for a wrap that is barely visible but not invisible. I tried black thread first, both nylon and NCP. The black was, in my opinion, invisible. Next I tried some shades of gray. My favorite was ProWrap 831 nylon without CP. I think it's just what we're l

43. Roller Tip
I'm tossing the idea of using a roller tip on a Phenix Black Diamond spiral wrap that I'm doing for myself. I haven't been able to find a roller tip that will work with a spiral wrapped rod. Anyone have any ideas?

Just a thought...I wonder if the line and the air the line's "carrying" thru the Microwave stripper doesn't lower the pressure, and therefore temperature, inside the "cone" as it flows thru??? In the same manner airflow thru a venturi loses pressure and temp. This could explain why the Microwave is more prone to icing than other running guides of similar or even smaller diam

For a few more dollars, I'd go with microwave guides. Why not start out with a bang? Just my 2 cents.

Ok, Thank you. I think I was reading the chart wrong. DUH! Now I understand.

Good Day,
I'd like to try Microwaving for the first time. The blank I have is a St. Croix 3S63MXF. It's 6'3" long 6-10lb. How do I space the guides? I thought I would split the difference in spacing of the 6'0" and 6'6" models from the chart but, the 6' uses 8 guides and the 6'6" uses all 9. Any ideas?
Thanks,
Jon

Thanks for the replies gentlemen. I think I'll try a new post. Even better...I'll try the system. Seems like a worth while gamble.
Thanks again.

Good Day,
Question about Microwave System "strength"?:
I'm primarily a salt water angler and amiture rod builder. In the fall in the Northeast we fish the offshore canyons for tuna. Sometimes during the day when tuna fishing is slow we jump around the lobster pots casting bucktails at the highfliers for mahi. I use a 17-30lb spinning rod with a 5000 series Shimano Stradic reel

Gooday,
I'm new to rod building...working on rod #9. I've fallen in love with spiral wrap rods to cast jigs for stripers, bluefish, and tuna off the Jersey Coast. I love the concept and realize the benefits even though fellow fishermen in the area are slow to accept it. I love it on my 7' Graffighter to "yo-yo" jig for tuna as having the guides on the bottom keeps the Depth Hun
