I like Ken Preston's method. Pass an alchol flame over the Guide feet enough to warm the Epoxy, then cut the thread off the top of the feet and pull the Guide off. The wrapping is the pulled of and the rod cleaned.

I spent the last week making modifications N0.s 7 and 8 to my home made wrapper. Then all Memorial day trying to power it with an old sewing macine motor and pedal. This morning the wife hands me a check for $500.00 and says, "Buy a wrapper". Just finished ordering the Renzetti. : ^ )

Morgan, build another rod now. But you made me feel good, I thought that I was the only one that things like that happened to. Take cheer.

I have the following videos, they all help a first timer in rod building. But each one gives you the techniques that each of individual builder uses. The batch of videos cost less than the charge for a class at a local rod manufacturer. Rhey are in no special order, just the way they were stacked on my desk. I tried the Artie Hebert technique. Metallic Gold with an over wrap of Gudebrod 209 red, and no CP. Came out a very good Candy Apple red. Just like in his video.

I used alcohol, soap and water to clean the rod and then gave it a light coat of furniture wax. Thanks for the info on Reel Magic, I haven't used it and won't.

Mark, Thanks. The contents of Pledge solves the answer. I used Epoxy in aircraft and boats and silicone caused many head aches. NO PLEDGE in the shop for me.for me.

Some where I read it but can't find it. Is Pledge ok to use for rod cleaning? ie. is there any teflon in it? I'd call Monday but I have to give the rod back today.

In Artie Heberts "Advanced Rod Making Techniques", he under wraps with Gold thread thread then over wraps with red (209), looks good on tape. I haven't tried it yet.

I volunteered to replace some guides on a PacHawk 6619C rod (made in China), and I stepped into it. As far as I can tell It was not made in the traditional manner. There was what seemed to be metallic decals and about only one wrapping of thread. Anyone know how these are made, or where I can get info on it? I spent more time fixing and covering up than replacing.

I used some Flex Coat rod finish that is over a year old. I mixed it for three minutes it never went clear and it always looked like there were a million bubbles in it. It seemed to apply clear, but it was turning to chewing gum by the time I reached the fourth guide in less than 30 minutes. Temp here 66 degrees, soild overcast. Anyone experienced this?
