James,
Was it a spinning or casting rod you built?

Thanks Dennis,
Yes I was aware of the knot issue. Using braid of around #30 (compared to 40 or 50 mono), I can make a double uni which would go through the small guides. I wonder what they thought we would do...glue two ends together of #5 braid???????????

Thanks guys,
Tom,
You live in my home state. I had a home in Silver Spring, and spent most of my time on the Chesapeake Bay. I am making a spinning rod as well as a casting rod for someone and want to make sure these guides will work out. My blank is a Boshido 7' which I understand can take a lot of abuse.I have not used micro guides until now. We fish up here in Cape Cod for striped bass and

I notice that when the topic of the AT Microwave guides are discussed, they relate to freshwater. Is there a problem using them for inshore saltwater? I am building one for going after fluke and striped bass in the NE. What other micro guides would work? Thanks,

Both Tom.. I think the most difficult would be fitting the ferrules to the blank.

I am attempting a bamboo fly rod for the first time. I have the blank and must fit the ferrules to the tips and butt. I have read several articles regarding this, but it is hard to understand what it is they are saying, since I am not familiar with the fly rod language. Any help would be appreciated so I don't screw this up. Thanks,

69. bamboo fly rod
I am trying to help someone build a bamboo rod. We have the rod blank, and I wondered if there is any source information I can find to help me put the components on the blank. I am experienced at rod building with a graphite or glass blank, but have never built a bamboo fly rod. ALso a name or list of companies that work with this type of rod. I know Golden Witch is one. Any help would be apprec

Thanks guys,
Travelling out of the country with fishing rods can be a real hassle, and I want to keep the length of the tube as small as possible. I will look into your suggestions.

71. three piece rod
I would like to build a three piece for for travel as well as a one piece rod blank for use in my neighborhood. I fish the Northeast for striped bass and bluefish. The striper cows can get fairly heavy. I want a light fast boat spinning rod that I can cast about 3 or 4 ounces. I will use a Shimano 4500 reel with braid or a Quantum 60. I have been impressed with the shimano Tallus and the Accurate

Thanks Guys,
I have given all that thought, but sometimes we hope someone comes up with a good answer. I suspect I will just redo the guides although the reel seat is almost imperceptibly off center, but I know it even though it wouldn't affect the fishing. I will just cry a little as I cut off the guides.

Has anyone had the experience of heating an aluminum reel seat to adjust it slightly after it has been put on the blank with rod bond? I know hot water is not effective. And if it can be heated to move it slightly, does the rod bond set up inside again and retain its strength? Thanks for any help.

In the latest Rodbuilding magazine, I saw the picture of the "Ins & Outs" wrap of Billy Vivona's. I e-mailed him for some information on this wrap, but got no response. Does this wrap go by any other name, and if so, can it be found on the Visual Wrap website? It is a beautiful rod and I would like to make this for myself. If the colors were available, I would appreciate that info a

Fuji makes a foregrip that has a metal ferrule inside of the grip, so the rod blank can be inserted when being used. It makes the rod a two piece rod. I have been trying to find this grip, but haven't had any luck. Does anyone know where I can buy this grip. Thanks,

I am going to build a jigging rod with a Hercules blank., and I want to do a spiral wrap. I have been noticing in chat rooms, etc. that the size of the guides have changed and a couple of smaller guides are placed at the area of the rod just before the final 3 or 4 guides are placed facing down as they do on a spinning rod. The idea is to keep the line as close to the rod blank as possible withou

Since Kate ( Siskiyou Aviary ) does not advertise any longer, where can I buy the feathers that we use for inlays? Kate was a good source, but even on her website now, there is no longer a way to buy them. I'm sure they are available somewhere. Thanks for any help.

I saw a butt grip on one of the photos that was impressive, and I think a carbon skin was used on this. It had a dark checkered pattern, but no details. Is there such a thing as a carbon skin, and if so how is it used? Is it shrinkable, etc., and where can I find it. Thanks,

Thanks for the help guys. The issue with me is to try to make a light rod that can be managed within reason when a fair sized fish is hooked. I know that there is no one rod for all purposes, but here in the Northeast, when fishing for bass, more and more, we sometimes come up with a tuna, and I would like to be ready for that. I have noticed in the shops more and more light rods are being made f

Dan,
What blank are you using for the jigging rod? I want to build a 6'6" parabolic rod that is light, yet can handle #200 tuna as well as bass casting. I fish off of Cape Cod, Mass, so we have to be ready for anything, but I want a light rod. I know Van Staal makes one, and that is what I want to make as well. It is a split handle rod. Thanks for any help.

I have searched the supply of Rodmakers Magazines, but can't find anything regarding making a spit handled spinning rod that I would like to use for large bass and heavy fish. I know that Van Staal makes a 6'6" jigging rod that is light and can take on heavy fish, and would like to make one such as that. Any help with info or pictures would be appreciated. Thanks,

I was ready to place an order for three small items that would easily fit in a small bubble bag. The total was $17.00. The shipping charges on the same coast going by USPS (postal) were $26 !!! I cancelled the order. It's tough when the charge to get the items are far more than the items themselves. I can send the same items across the US for a few dollars. I think the companies are certainly hel

They are too small. For a rod diamter that size, either make one or use a rubber winding check. They come in large sizes for large diameter rods.

I saw a picture ( can't remember where) of a custom rod with a beautiful wrap of string or rope (three thicknesses) ending with a Turk's knot. It impressed me and I thought of making this for one of my rods. Has anyone done this and what material is needed ? Thanks,;

I want to build a couple of boat spinning, casting rods for tuna here in the Northeast (Cape Cod). I realize this can be a tall order, but I want to be able to cast as far as possible, and at the same time hold the fish tight to the boat when he gets close, so it doesn't run under the boat. I like the Seekers and Calstars for this type of fishing, and have tentatively chosen the Seeker CJB70H or
