The gibberish at the end of my e-mail was supposed to be the word conclave. I struck the wrong keys. Sanford

Thanks for all the responses to my question. I do get the Rodbuilder magazine, but apparently did not receive the issue you all are referring to. What is the date of that issue? I understand completely what you are trying to explain--" the bumper guide is not a transition guide since it's purpose is not to guide the line to the tip". Having said that, is the guide any particular size or

Thanks, But how does that differ from any guide used in the transition position of the spiral wrap? I transition my guides according to how the line flows to the 180 position. Sanford

I have seen the reference a number of times to a "bumper guide". What is it and what is it's purpose. I probably have used it and called it by another name. Thanks Sanford

One thing to remember about tip tops. If the shop you order the top from tries it on the same blank which has no finish ( ex: matte finish), then the tip top will be 1/2 to one size smaller. It must be fitted to the same rod blank with the same finish. Sanford

Bill, I probably wouldn't go over $2.00. Make sure the point is rounded. Those babies can be sharp! Sanford

Richard, I would just wrap black thread over the pink, making sure there are no gaps, then for safety sake, one coat of Gruderbrod 811, then one coat of finish. That should lock the color down. After that, I probably would avoid pink, and use another color, with a cp such as 811. This shouldn't take too long and would probably give you what you want. There are colors such as goldenrod, sunburst,

Frank, The airline allows you to watch the inspection of these cases, so when I check in, I don't lock the case until I see them inspect the rods, then lock the case. I also tell the inspector how to remove the rods with care. I have had enough problems in the past with the airlines. If we take the time to do this, the rods will fare out ok. Sanford

Dan, I took 10 rods with me to Costa Rica and they all returned in one piece. I called the airline before leaving on the trip and asked them to let me be in the area where they were checked and they agreed. I made sure the person handling the case was careful in checking the rods in and out of the case. The case was a Plano rod carrying case with wheels. I wrapped each rod with bubble wrap and s

Billy, I again erred. I checked the sites, and the site which has the loads of colors of Madeira threads is allstitch.net. Make sure you use net, not com. You will like the charts. Each color has it's own page. This time I am correct and apologize for not searching them again. It had been awhile. Sanford

Ken, Thanks for singling me out, but all the credit goes to Doc Ski, Jim Upton and Mark Crouse. They set the bar, and if you have tons of patience, you can add your name to the list. Sanford

Billy, I made an error. The website is Madeirausa.com. for those who want to look at the color charts. Sanford

Billy, If one wants to see the Madeira charts, go to Madeira website (Madeira.com). There are all the charts to view. That would save you all the work you plan to do with this. Sanford

Billy, My son lives in Japan and has made this his home. He sends me various fishing articles and they are beautifully handcrafted, as usual for the Japanese. I know they have fishing equipment far superior to ours that is not exported, sad to say, but some day maybe. As to the GUSA rods, let me know what you have and like. I have made a couple of them and really like the blank. Here in the Nor

I would do all this, but talking the three model blondes into making the trip is such a chore. I didn't know you had a business, seriously. What is the name of the firm? I am planning to come to the gatherings next year, I hope. I will bring some tuna that I haul in this summer.

I want to build the motorized epoxy mixer that was written about in the Rodbuilder magazine. I know parts (motor and cup holder) can be bought from places like Mudhole, but does anyone know where I can get a 18 rpm motor and various parts less expensively. There are companies that sell small motors, etc., but I am not familar with them. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks. Sanford Hochman

Harv, I just finished a dragon weave using Madeira polyneon #40. It is on the photo board in thread art. It is a dream to work with, and is very strong. With all the tightening I had to do over the hours of work, it did not fray or break and ended up looking and feeling like it was new. You have to use cp (clear) before the finish. Jim Upton has been using it for some time and that's how I got s
