i,ve been fishing at least 65 years and i don,t recall ever having a lure snap off during a cast on the other hand my memory is a lot shorter.lol.

hi mark..i was thinking a little more on this and came up with some ideas such as an ink print covered with e-poxy or an e-poxied decor wrap with a thumb print on it but most people would probably just prefer their name on the rod...i would.

i have no idea how hard the wire is but is their a way to roughen up the surface so that the thread and finish can get a better hold on the guide?

hi steve..i now i,m banging on a dead horse, just one more thought...you should have other guides with cracks, not just one...if just one guide is cracked it may be from some kind of bump or knock..better luck with your new build.

hi steve, one final suggestion..many years ago rich forhan wrote a very good book about his revolver rods...he hung a 5# weight on his rod and measured the load on each individual guide...of course the butt guides were under the greatest load about one pound as i recall...at that same time i decided to make my first graphite flipping rod..i already had two fenwick glass rods but graphite was taki

also, if flexing the rod causes cracks or whatever, why does it happen where the rod flexes the least, down near the butt...maybe these guides get the most abuse from bumps and knocking on rails, being stepped on, etc. if a guide is stepped on maybe flex is good. lol.

i,m just thinking maybe a coat of perma gloss will seal the cracks and darken the light spots and being very flexable the cracks will not reopen..

i have never used used a ferrule wrap or intentially placed a guide on a ferrule in over 50 years,,,just lucky i guess, but usually used one or two more guides than called for..maybe that,s why i,m lucky. lol.
