hi norman..yes, i have used sharpened brass tubes in the past but the would bind up quickly..that,s when the different glue idea came up..now i,m thinking of shorter arbors which should be easier to cut through..i did not know about cork borers..would someone like lowes have them..thanks for the idea Norman.

thanks philip..i,m going to stay with e-poxy but use much shorter urethane arbors that should be easier to cut through with a sharpened brass tube..the only i have to figure is how short i can go with arbors..i,m going to start with 1/2" arbors at each end of the dps seat..that should get lots of laughs.lol.

i don,t fish saltwater. my experience is with hair bug fishing for bass. this was years ago when i used snake guides on a 9 wt. rod.. everytime i hooked up with a nice size bass the the wire guides would dig into the line when we locked up and then suddenly jump free giving too much slack, sometimes enough for the fish to unhook himself...then i found this site and tom and some other were touting

hi Miki..when fishing for larger fish, don,t you have a problem with the snake guides biting into your fly line under load making for a stick and go stick and go flow of the line..

thanks Don and Matthew..does any remember the old Herters rod building kits over 50 years ago. no e-poxy. guide wraps were painted with laquer then varnished..i don,t remember what glue was used on the cork rings or the reel seat..does anyone remember..thanks.

hi roger.. have you ever used a cement like Duco to attach a dps style seat..would it not make seat removal much easier..a lot less heat would be needed. no?

1557. Re: ABSOLUTELY LIVID
hi tommy..my first rod many years ago was made from a Herters kit. no problems. i think because back then there were no such thing as e-poxys and most of your conflict seems to be e-poxy related..maybe if you just get away from using e-poxys just for starters, you,ll get your rods built..there are other glues and finishing products.

i was wondering, with the new high pressure blank roller machines is the spine effect as strong as it used to be or is the jump as strong as it used to be in todays blanks.

hi tommy...there was someone on this site from years ago who suggesred to wrap the guides on, put three coats of CP and just fish the rod..maybe give it another coat next year.if you need to move the guides, cut off the wraps and use some iso to clean up old CP, alot easier than cleaning e-poxy.
