211. Re: float rod finish
I know it sounds like the rod is super stiff, but when I static tested it it flexes into the butt wrap. I guess the proof will be in the fish fighting.

212. Re: float rod finish
I will be using it primarily for panfish, but there are carp to 30lbs, bass, and channel cats in the water I am fishing, so I wanted something with a light enough tip to cast a waggler with 1/4 oz but also have enough backbone if something sizeable were to hit. I guess that's why they call it custom.
I used the guides because all my other spinning rods have the traditional larger guides and I

213. Re: float rod finish
Thanks, Tom.
That's what I was considering. The rod is wrapped with "A" thread with no underwrap and no overlapping threads at the guide wraps so I don't need anything thicker once the threads are all sealed and smooth.

214. float rod finish
All,
I am currently wrapping a rod based on a 13' 10/11 wt spey blank. I will be using it as a UK style float/match rod. I have installed a vetre matrix handle (10" rear carbon grip) with a cork fighting butt and rubber end cap. The guides are Hopkins & Holloway Seymo RDX match guides from www.guidesnblanks.com. My question is as follows: What would most of you finish theis rod with,

I built my first rod with nylon sewing thread and it worked fine. I used CP and Gudebrod One-Part finish.

I ended up using a coat of spar urethane with two coats of Flex-Coat on top. Dust was not an issue, since I hijacked the boss's dining room table. This was my first time with epoxy and the only issue I had was keeping the edge of the finish straight. I tried applying the finish with the rod turning. I think next time I am going to try applying the finish by hand turning and then when all is done

Sorry I forgot to mention that I already have 4 coats of flex-coat color preserver on the wraps.

What if I use the poly, as some have recommended to saturate the threads and eliminate bubbles and then overlay the wraps with epoxy. Is this worth the extra effort and ar there any compatibility issues to speak of?

My main concerns are two:
1. How do you who use epoxy deal with dust? Understandably, you can't keep a room completely dust free.
2. Then there is the chance of a power interruption which in our neighborhood, we get from time to time. Not frequently, but then there is Murphy's law.

I am currently building my first few rods and have not begun the finish process yet (waiting for the dryer in the mail). I was curious if anyone has used polyurethane instead of epoxy finish on the thread work. If you did what were the results and is it worth the effort to use the epoxy. Any responses would be appreciated. Thanks.

I already have the gimbal attached, so I will probably keep it as a one piece rod.

222. gator blank question
Hi, I am new to the forum. I currently have three rods in progress for my own use. A 15-25 lb line boat rod (spiral), a 13'-6" match rod on a 10 wt. spey blank and an 8' pier/jetty rod on a gator u696XH blank. My question concerns the gator.
The blank is one-piece and with the addition of a fuji graphite gimbal/rubber cap the resulting length is 8'-2". I am considering converting th

The underwrap thread should be smaller than the overwrap thread.
