I build bass rods that are pretty much all spiral wrapped. Simple Spiral. Havent built a conventional wrap in a while.
If you build bass rods I would talk to the guys over at MHX about the spiral wraps they are using. Reason being they are a component supplier as well as support a pro-staff of tourney anglers who use their stuff. So they have knowledge on both sides of the rod.

Should a "high end" ring or grip have pits in it after light sanding?
I've purchased the "superior cork grips" just to see them pitted out like the rest after barely sanding on them.
Guys will pay for good cork. Who has it?

That's how you do it companies. You dont take it personal, you dont delay shipments or send defective product to get even.
Some companies in the fishing industry act like business is a given and customers are lucky to do business with them. It's unreal the lack of customer service and general business prowess these industry pros display sometimes. When a company is taking banter on online for

They have some of the best customer service in the fishing industry. I've really appreciated doing business with them.

Stan,
I am very familiar with this issue. If you do a search for Amine Blush you will see that I have posted on it more than once.
After trying everything suggested and then some, I ended up changing finishes. Found one that was similar but no blushing issues. Havent looked back.
That wasnt an easy decision. I really liked FC and think its a great company. It's too bad the environment

If you look at some of the micro rods offered by factory manufactures you can tell just by the guide height and distance from each other that the line is going to touch the blank under load.
Was actually told by one manufacture that line touching the blank isnt a problem. This was after pointing out the guide train on one of his competitors models.
But, this is one the pros are gonna ha

Hello,
Recently ordered some pre-made cork grips and found metal (most likely lead) in them after some minor sanding.
Is this just a case of the way things are now?

Thanks for letting me know the habits of a couple tourney fisherman you work with.
Good luck with the trailer idea.

Here is a product idea for someone to steal. ;)
Repair kits for tourney anglers. Sell em on T. Warehouse or Mudhole.
Small UV keychain light, little tube of the UV cure finish, couple razor blades, black thread with a fly tying bobbin, 1/4" tape roll.
Tourney angler can repair their rod in the hotel their staying at and be done in a matter of minutes. No drying motor or attention t

I once had a Shimano Clarus get pulled off my floattube and into the drink by a batray. It dragged it 50 yards before resting. The full length cork rear grip was buoyant enough that when the ray stopped the rod floated up to a foot under the surface where I could grab it.

When you compile a wishlist does your system find the closest dealer who would have those parts or is the "find dealer" function based on physical location?
I ask because I tried getting one of the items listed on your site from a local dealer and was told they didnt have access to them. The above feature would help with that.

Hi,
When it comes to grips I like to use the PVC tape stuff that comes in red and blue rolls. I use this because it has no tack to it and will not leave residue or remove any of the grip when removed. It provides waterproof sealing in its natural application so it works really well for me. I've actually had painters tape pull EVA pieces out when removed.
One trick that I learned for edges

Who has it?
These guys go out of business or drop this product? Can't seam to find em.
For me, this stuff worked great. Don't like the white CP's available so not sure where to go if this stuff is gone.

108. Re: Impossible...
Why put the trim band on after the wrap. Why not just start the wrap side by side the single thread trim and drop it before the 2nd turn?
Along the same lines of going from one color to the next with a trim of a 3rd color in the middle.

The value of the biz is in the paint and low cost for a customer to choose between multiple colors. That's a feature not currently offered by anyone in the industry.
Blanks can be had anywhere.

I've been putting finished rods in noodles that are used for pool toys. Then I put the noodle with rod in it in the PVC tubing. Cap the tops with some stuffing then plastic. No issues so far.
Its especially nice when shipping blanks.

Great topic! - Would love to hear from guys who build bass rods what they think about this.

No, haha! I was more into the sales/biz. dev. side of things than anything personal.
I understand the viewpoint of not holding back your feelings or critiques. Totally fair.
Wanted to add to the topic that I'm surprised how often I hear the type of hook keeper is the reason why a guy likes or dislikes a rod. I guess in the heat of the moment anything can help or hinder an angler in his p

But then be ready to be labeled and told how bad you are!

There was a thread a while back on what qualifies a guy as a custom builder and requirements for a rod to be considered custom. I learned that many of the rods I've built are not custom.
In this thread it was implied guys going after low value rods "consider" themselves custom rod builders and that some of them build worse than the factory kid overseas.
I dont really care. I jus

One thing I've never understood is the underlying tone used here sometimes that guys who dont do 12hr crosswraps and grips are somehow not worthy of the "custom rod builder" status. That a guy who is building low value rods isnt even a custom rod builder nor may even have the skill to out build a malaysian kid in some far off province.
How does that tone work with the sponsors on th

Based on how you want it to look I think wrapping your scales and putting on a satisfied finish before grip install will look the cleanest. You can overextend the wrap and tuck your finishing wraps into the grip.
I'd then ream grips to fit and take measurements for winding checks if using.

If you havent done this already take the lighter and place it under your hand like you were the wrap. Feel the temp of things as you try different distances away from your hand and different speeds back n forth.

There's such a placebo effect with anglers and factory rods that if you cant source the blank your at a pretty stout uphill climb from the jump.
