Just wanted to wish a Happy Thanksgiving to everybody.
All the help that I receive, and all the kind people I meet here, have really helped me become a better builder, and I'm thankful for that!
Everybody drive safe, and eat well!

62. Re: AquaShield
Pretty sure PermaGloss and LumiSeal both last long, but the real question is how you store it. If you store it in the bottles that it comes in it wont last long, but if you store it in a paint can, and have a hole in it that is plugged by a screw. Im not explaining it too well. someone will chime in here.

Its not necessary, you would be surprised by how strong those threads actually are. I dont see why it would hurt considering the rod is going to be heavy to begin with. Its up to you. But I think that its not 100% necessary.

I just use two different guide sizes.. one for the stripper and the rest are all the same..
I would do a 20 or 16 and then the rest 10's or 8s depending on what your fishing..
Tight Wraps..

You could use a diamond wrap with increments of one inch between each diamond. that way you will know. measure out your handle and remember how long it is. So lets say its a 28" handle (Striped Bass regs) then every one inch after that is 29" 30" 31" so on. just an idea. its endless. think of something. or just mark a spot on your rod that is a certain length from one point t

Hopefully Bill Vivona will chime in, he is an ambassador for this. I do this to get the best of both worlds from both of the finishes I use. Prokote, and Threadmaster. Combined it dries quicker than normal prokote, is not as brittle as flex coat, it will never crack, Uv properties are great, and the finish is easy to work with.
try it yourself and i guarantee you will be happy! just make sure

Thank you Tom,
but here is my dilemma... There are drops of epoxy on my rod building lathe that are from the same coat, and they are also very yellow! PUZZLING!

THREADMASTER ALL THE WAY! Diamond II also yellows very quickly. Pro Kote is good for yellowing, but seems to take a long time to cure.
For the best of both worlds mix one cc of each hardener and resin from prokote and threadmaster for a unique finish. works really well if you mix it well!
Enjoy

Thank you all, but my biggest issue is that only one section of the wrap yellowed, and its funny because it only happened on one of the coats. Weirdest thing ever!! I LOVE Threadmaster! My FAVORITE finish. But I can't seem to conclude how that could have happened... Absolutely no clue of how old it is, but i have had it for under 9 months. Probably 8 or so.
Thanks
Gabe

HEY GUYS!
I did my first bit of marbling work, and it turned out beautiful! One of the coats I put on, seemed to not have been mixed well, or maybe not equal parts? Anyhow I put some more coats on and it looked good and the finish was rock hard (THREADMASTER). I go back today after a week to finally pick up the rod from the corner of my room behind a vanity like thing (antique that my parents ju

I finish the underwrap with a very light coat of epoxy. VERY LIGHT.
THEN, wait 24 hours and wrap over em. works well!

LOL!!!
honestly, you can trust just about any thread company you choose. its all about preference. I use prowrap, but if you get the nylon thread, go with the size D. i dont like their metalliic as much because it flies off the spool and u end up loosing a lot of thread. very springy. just hard to work with. Gudebrod came back as like weltec or something idk.
go to mudhole. they have some ni
