I use Xotic uretahne based airbrush paints. I have used Kryon with good results but Xotic offers many more colors including pearls and metallics. For primers and clear coats I use automotive products.

Tsunami has recently come out with a pack of bands to go around the spool arbor, similar to the bands you see on some of the Penn reels. I usually use mono backing but have also just tied the braid to the spool and than as I start wrapping the line on I place a piece of electrical tape on the spool and wrap the tape over the braid the first few turns. Never had a problem with either method.

I agree with Terry, Createx will work well and offers many colors.

I agree with Captain Neil on his idea of Aftcote not cracking at guide feet. I use Aftcote exclusively on my guide wraps for this reason. It does take longer to cure which in some cases I like. If it is cold in your finish room will take very long to cure.

I have not built one yet but they sound interesting. I may pick one up at the upcoming expo. I am also curious to hear peoples reviews of these blanks.

Captain Neil,
I know a party boat captain and mate looking to re-wrap about 40 rods for inshore fishing seabass, flounder and occasionally tog. Do you think the XT4XG Minimas would hold up to this kind of fishing and if not is there another Minima guide would you recommend?

I use a brass wire brush and steel wool to remove most of the rust and than wax with Collinnite Insulator wax. I also use this wax on my lathe bed and other lathe parts for protection. I would think any god auto wax would work well also. Collinite is a good durable wax that I was introduced to by a customer who recommended using it on reel spools to prevent saltwater corrosion. I have purchased s

I did not make those that was a photo from the photo section of this site, credit should go to Chuck Mills. I have made them before for my Renzetti and Clemens lathes using stainless trolling wire, #15 I believe. If you are wrapping lighter rods than the saltwater rods I normally wrap you could use a lighter gauge wire.

I have purchased pulleys from Renzetti but I am not sure if they will ship to the UK.

I have had spigot ferrules that had a little wobble or clicking as you say and also very tight ferrules. When I have plenty of gap between the pieces the best method I found was to chuck the butt section in my lathe and apply a polishing paste such as Simichrome to the male section. Get the lathe turning and insert the male section into the female section slowly. As the polishing paste slowly wor

I know Permagloss will leave thread marks so I assume Lumiseal will also. In my experience they will not cure as hard as a factory finish.

Shimano had one for the Tiralejo surf rods but they are out of stock on them now, not sure if they will get them back but you may be able to find some place who still has one in stock. It has been years since I sold one but I believe the kit they sell was just the weight themselves. The blank was threaded and the screw on butt cap that the weights attached to came on the rod. If you could get the

Wow, thank you all for the compliments, I really appreciate it. Billy, I did meet you but only as my screen name on SOL, Fishizzle. I actually had the idea for the foregrip and split grip wrap a long time ago. I did most of the EVA and the split grip wrap three years ago and just never got around to finishing the rod. In that time I came up with other ideas that I incorporated into the rod. All o

I am with Billy on this one. I have built on several of these blanks and have never had one break. Great strong blanks.

I have been using one of the chucks for maybe close to year now. It holds rods very well. Only problem I have with it is when doing repairs on some heavier boat rods they kind of turn and than fall a little. Still works fine but was a little concerning at first. Never had a rod move out of the chuck at all. It stays right where you put it. It is very quick and I would recommend it to anybody.

You can get the Flex-Coat slip clutch and instead of installing it just put it in the chuck you have on your lathe now.

As a former Merrick tackle customer I am very pleased with the service I have received from Mudhole. When I heard Merrick was closing I knew it would hurt my business as I used to do a lot of drop ships for customers and also the fact that Merrick carried a lot of other fishing related items.
As stated above there are other vendors for a lot of the items Merrick carried but there are also items

I do not understand where they screw. I have used many plate seats but have never seen one with a screw. Are you talking about using the reel coasters that screw to attach the plate seat?

Why not build something up inside the Butt section? Maybe a ring glued inside at the proper place to act as a stop.
