Appreciate input guys. Its for a Marine budy who fishes surf in outer banks. I live in atlanta area and fish solely freshwater and make my own poles. But I learned rod building in mid 70s living in Pacifica Ca buipding surf rods. I was 15 hanging around the Coastside #2 baitshop and the older guys took me under their wings. To my best knowledge, he just wanted a 12 ft 2 piece rod for 2-6 oz a

When the rod building craft lost Andy's creative and high quality minded input, this craft lost a vital innovator. To me, a guy thats been out of rod making for some time, his abscence and loss of input is very obvious. I miss him. Andy come back....

Ive been away from rod building for sometime. I take it that Andy Dear and Lamar fishing is no more. They sold off all their inventory to other vendors. And that superb burl cork is gone with only the remnants here and there remaining. Is this correct?

Brother in law is leaning hard again to build him a flyrod now. He fly fishes the creeks in middle PA for trout. He wants an 3 piece, 8 ft, 4 wt pole. Since I care about him, and also since its his money, my time, I want thim to have the best tool. Guys, give me your best advice, I'm not entirely sold on Gatti. I'd like to give CTS a try but Andy does'nt respond to my e mails. I'd probably have t

I've always used the heat stick glue until my last build. I simply got tired of tips working loose at the most inappropriate times. I used on my last build 5 min epoxy. But I must confess, I hate to think of what could happen should I ever need to replace that tip cause it is on there brother. Its only a 4.5 .

Duane, thats awesome fella! Got to tell ya, I'm nervous as ---- about doing this. Especially w/5 min epoxy.. Tilt the rod up, in a dryer and just let it flow and fill up cavity? Oh man, I see potential disaster. It is times like this that I wish I could learn, hands on from a Grand Master of this craft. In person.

For freshwater striper & hybrid fishing the Seeker @#$%& 706 S glass is the best I've ever used, particularly for live bait. Most of my fish are gonna be 5-15 lbs. I do not troll.

Hey Dan, yea that helps fella. First time is always a little challenging when doing something new like the spinning guide concept. I've adhered to the rules as close as I possible could. Lots of tweaking. In the end, I have acheived the two axis for the line, anchor guide is good to go. Static load looks real good. Quite a bit of space between the first and second guide. I'm not used to that but t

If you have a spinning reel with a spool lip diameter of 1 3/4 inches do I still want to use a #25 guide or should I bump it up to a 30? Also, if going with the concept guide way of doing things, what other sizes of conventional spinning guides should come off of the 30 to meet the remaining #6 fly type guides?

10-4 Mike, I'm going with your recommendation. I just needed a very good idea with the guide sizes.. The idea I take it is to get the line down fast to the blank into a straight axis-right? Don't know what I'd do w/o this forum sometimes... You gave me my starting poiint. The blank will tell me the rest. Thanks

Old school here needing help. The concept spinning guide set up looks like it uses a number of the newer fly type guides at the end? Anyway, I'm building a seven ft 4-8lb test bass rod, light fast action. I'm looking at using Amtak Titans. I need to know the sizes from biggest to tip and how many? where do I make the transition to fly type guides and how many of them vs conventional spinning gui

Hey Mike, I was looking at them on Andy's site. Andy Dear has been real good to me and his word means a lot. I have read online where it takes a month or more to get a blank in from NZ. What is the delivery time on a CTS?
