If you have a spinning reel with a spool lip diameter of 1 3/4 inches do I still want to use a #25 guide or should I bump it up to a 30? Also, if going with the concept guide way of doing things, what other sizes of conventional spinning guides should come off of the 30 to meet the remaining #6 fly type guides? Read the instructions for posting above then do a search on wrappers and you'll have more information than you can handle. Re: First guide size spinning...

Read the article in the online library here on the New Guide Concept. Nobody can tell you what sizes to use - the key to all that is right there with your rod and reel. Once you plot the proper line path, the correct sizes will be apparent.

Definitely do what the previous two say, but I would add that my first guide using a Shimano 2000 series w/ 6lb test is a BYAG/VS3 25 or 20. I also get down to size 6 running guides. Re: First guide size spinning...

I'm caught in a 25 vs 30 situation. Re: First guide size spinning...

Fred,
Standard is 1/2 the spool diameter. So... 1.75"=44.4cm. 44.4/2=22.2cm so a 25 will work. Hope this helps. Danny D. Will Expatriated Conch Re: First guide size spinning...

Hey Dan, yea that helps fella. First time is always a little challenging when doing something new like the spinning guide concept. I've adhered to the rules as close as I possible could. Lots of tweaking. In the end, I have acheived the two axis for the line, anchor guide is good to go. Static load looks real good. Quite a bit of space between the first and second guide. I'm not used to that but thats concept. Bottom line, cast good and loads well. Sorry, only registered users may post in this forum.
