Ben,
Just drilled a hole in aliminium plate, slightly larger than 1/4" allthread mandrel. A bearing of some kind would be a worthy improvement. Let me know what you come up with.

My home made lathe, not my original idea, copied from someone elses picuture. Cheap but it works. Bought a dedicated drill ($25) and hose clamp ($1.50), rest were scrap materials laying around, about 2hr time and "away-you-go"

Phil,
I did exactly that with a 10ft 7wt. Used scrap grafite blank pieces. Doubled shafted about 7" to 8" long, half in half out. It has become my regular Steelhead rod. Performs very well. Took about 3hrs and I had never done it before.

Does anyone know of a "How To" to make a fiber carbon sleeve reel seat insert? I make foam core handles but would like to try making my own reel seat inserts.

14. Heat Shrink Wrap
Hi Folks,
Does anyone heat shrink wrap their finished handles? If so what do you use,and where do you get it? I located some tubing at Uline, but it only comes in quantities that would last me ten lifetimes. At my age one is more than enough. If you use it and have extra I would be happy to buy some. Or maybe one or more would be interested in sharing a minimum order which is 2 - 2"x750ft

Can some explain the difference and appropriate uses of these two finishes. I am not a chemist, so plain language is needed. T K uses spray urethane oh fiber carbon handles, why not polyurethane?

Has anyone done CCS measurements of ERN & AA for a Sevier Tigereye 7.5ft, 5 and or 6wt, 2 piece blank? I realize same make and model blank can be different, but any personal experience will be appreciated.
Thanks, John

Bill,
I have tried every labeling method under the sun. Computer printed (ink jet and laser) on white paper with background and print colors, as per RodMaker Magazine. Hand writing on various scotch and packing tapes. Hand writing on commercial water slide and peel-n-stick labeling materials. Using every type and color ink /paint made (I think). Custom printed on water slide and peel-n-stick

Any specifics available? Is one #size larger for SF guides a good "rule of thumb"?

Just noticed on J Stockard's site that the recommended guide sizes go up by one size when using single foot vs traditional snakes. Interesting, is this a common practice? Have very little experience with single foot guides.
Thanks, John

30. Re: decals
Can't beat a hand inscription. My daughter is an accomplished calligrapher an has always done my personal rods. She created a custom monogram that is included in the inscription as well as all pertinent info. Ends up being very special. Unfortunately for me she relocated to Charleston, SC, now I have to wait until we visit, or spend the $s to mail the rods. I also have had her write on decal ma
