Great idea Tom. I was thinking about joining 2 together but unsure of the seam I'll create. I like the idea of using a trim ring.

2. Slick butts
Anyone know where I can find a long (16ish inch) slick butt? Trying to pair up with a 26mm aluminum seat. Any other options? Maybe a Tennessee handle????
Thanks

Agreed. I've had great success building e glass grouper rods like you are describing.... I think your article made me perfect it.

That's what I was thinking. Was treating the "90" as the bumper I guess.

Night time swordfish rod with TLD 50W, 60 lb mono. Short curved butt. CBSW54XXH gorilla or American Tackle AXST56XHS. Stand up fishing in a small center console.
Why not spiral wrap it with HBSG SIC guides? Quick 0 - 90 - 180 spiral? I'm stuck on a tip to use. Guides would only have to pass a bimini. Start with a 25mm, 10mm bumper and 12mm running guides? I'd like to give this a tr

Casey,
I use abalone from Mud Hole a lot with no cracking issues. I boil the abalone sticker side up (the sheet will float around on top of the water) for 12 minutes. Quickly apply after and rub it down with a finger or burnishing tool and wrap over with D thread for 30 min. You may have gotten a bad sheet if your previous installs went well.
Good luck!

Thanks guys.
Billy. Basically we are trolling rapala cd mags and super shad raps real slow in 7-15 feet of water and drifting, or anchoring up and soaking big live baits with 1 to 3 oz of lead. Snook 5-25lbs and grouper up to the high teens.... and lots of bottom snags.
I never thought about the MXH musky blanks.
Thanks

Hey guys,
Need some blank and guide help. Looking for a heavy duty snook / grouper trolling and live bait rod. 65lb braid with a Shimano Talica 8. The blank needs to be light in weight with some good backbone. 7 foot long. $120 blank budget. Thinking about a Seeker Hercules GTS70M (anyone know the blank weight of this one?) or a st. croix SCII 2M69XHF or 2M70MHF...
NBRLVH or BHNLG guid

PG is pretty hot and will eat up the Krylon unless it is 110% cured. Rust oleum hammered finish is pretty neat on blanks and their auto paint works like a champ also. Fun to experiment with different products / colors.

I found them at my local home improvement store a while back. Very nice for sure.

Perhaps the lumiseal is eating up the krylon clear coat?... I use perma gloss (way "hotter" than lumiseal) applied with a small cheap foam brush over straight krylon with no issues.

12. Re: Which paint?
Krylon Fusion works like a champ. Rust Oleum hammered finish is pretty neat on rods also. Make sure to let the paint dry for at least 4 days before perma gloss / luma seal. I've painted a bunch of rods in the past and have never had issues.
GOOD LUCK

The CP could have went past the actual finish??? I did that on a personal rod and moisture got inside the wraps quick. just a thought. But a year later of hard use.... dosent sound right. As tom said, something more than likley got on the wraps before finish was applied.

19. Re: PermaGloss
I really like perma gloss. I dont mean to de rail this thread but how long do you think it would last if i ordered a bunch of 1 oz bottles and stored them in the fridge?

20. Re: permagloss?
I have had great results applying perma gloss on a 18 rpm motor with a smal 1/4"l foam brush. I actually impress my self each time. do it about 12" at a time, working quickly. I'm doing it on a whole blank over new paint though... not guide wraps.
Good luck

This is probably a stupid question (no such thing though right?) but.....
Whats the deal with these? I did a search and as I understand they a suited for fighting chair applications..... is that right?
So, what would be the difference between a seeker IGFA80 and a seeker TS55XXH other than 3" in length and tip size? Is it more or less the action?
Just something that has always bot

I'm going to shoot for a 12-14" overlap and hide it with the fore grip and a winding check.

Hey guys and gals
My computer has been on the frits and i am responding to my post from early march about 8' solid glass HEAVY (100lb line) blank. I just e-mailed baston about how / where to buy their 6' - 60-100lb line solid glass blank. If i can extend the handel 18" that would work great.
so.... what is a rock solid way to extend the blank in the handel?
I would like to make a fi

I think it's just a personal choice. I like it downlocking. I tend to work a uplocking seat loose some how with my wrist after a dozen or so casts.

EDIT. I made a rod with a 40mm recoil stripping guide down to a 10mm for a comercial gator hunter. A month of hard action and still fine. I actually hung 22lb of dead weight from a single 20mm recoil guide for 2 days in a few different angles... i bent them every way i could (many many many times), steped on them beat them etc. under wrap and double locking overwraps. GOOD TO GO!

Thanks guys. Sorry for the late responce. My computer crashred. I think i'm going with baston and going to try to extend a 6 footer to a 7'-6" ish. Can i use 2 feet or so of the butt end of a heavy duty hollow glass rod and slide the solid glass blank inside of that? overlapping 6" or so?

Thanks Lou. I tried mudhole along with a bunch of others... no one has a 8' solid glass blank. I think my best bet is hopefully someone has a personal stash that they want to part with.
THANKS
