Anyone know where i can get a 8' XX-heavy solid glass blank? I had 2 that i bought at a garage sale years ago that became very popular with a few people I know. Would like to get my hands on 4 more.

I hope for a quick recovery for whatever ails you!
Thank you for the TK manderal that you shipped to me a little while ago by the way! It works like a champ and was at my door quicker than I could have ever expected.
I look forward to ordering a few more in the future.

I will post pictures and specs. for sure when it's done Eric. It's not going to be pretty... just functional for the task at hand.
I wish the double foot recoil guides came in a 40.
It sure is fun. The gator goes absolutley crazy right when you snatch it and calms down pretty quick. A all out tug-o-war of powerful dead weight.
Thanks for everyones help

Thanks Ron!
You are on the same page as I am with the 1-1/8" foul proof guides. That's the biggest of that style i have seen so far.
Foul proof is what i'm looking for.
Don't need / want a ugly stick Bill... thanks any hoo. I have the whole set up... just need to re-wrap with guides that I can stomp on.
I'm just going to get me a single foot recoil guide and wrap it as best

I would like something like this...
I have used these
They were way better than the Fuji BSVAG's.... but we still broke a few. I have re-wraped some old school rods with huge (50MM) double foot non fowling guides in the past. If I could get my hands on some of those that would be money.
My fall back guide will be the XBSG.
So.... what do you guys think about the single f

I guess that took me to long to type.
The blank, grips and seat are under control. This is a re-build for my self and a new build for a friend. I just need some serious guides. The Recoil guides are very strong.... just not sure about 100lb plus braid and the single foot.
THANKS

Eric,
That was what I started with a few years ago. They were pretty tough... just not tough enough. I ended up breaking a bunch of em where the ring was "welded / soldered" to the the frame. This particular build needs to be bullet proof. I have tried to baby every gator snatching blank, but the week point has always been the guides. If the Recoil guides will not work, I'm pro

Do you guys think the single foot Recoil guides can handel 100lb PLUS braid? Thinking about under wrap, epoxy, locking over wrap, epoxy and another overwrap and epoxy. Does not need to be pretty... just tough.
I'm throwing around some ideas for a new alligator snatching rod for the up coming gator hunting season in Florida.
The rod will get tossed around a lot in the airboat and pick up b

about 3 THIN coats of restoleum plastic paint. let the last coat dry for at least 3 days, then permagloss 2 thin coats. Has worked well for me with no flaws.
I just spray paint it outside. Tape the grip / seat up and evenly apply spray paint as you turn it by hand. A saw horse and something heavy enough to hold the rod horzintal is all i need. When you apply the permagloss, rest the tip

Hey guys,
I'm going to start a pink live bait rod for a friend's wife for Valentines day pretty soon. He told me to "make the rod pretty" and wants it to be a moderate to moderate fast action. This is for a TLD 15 and 20lb mono. General south florida live bait fishing from a boat. "bump trolling" and drifting.
I wold like to get a few opinions on this before i order

I cut the foot off a old spinning reel and attach it to the reel seat of a rod under construction. It helped me big time to line up all the guides just eye balling down the blank.
I like the tool you made Jay!

Thanks Jeff,
I got the glue up of the rings under control and shaping with sandpaper. Just not sure hou to secure the cork on the manderal to shape on a lathe with tools. I would think that just jamming the cork on the manderal would make the cork slip. I could be wrong.
THANKS

How are you guys doing it? I have been turning wood for a while now and I'm ready to try out some cork blocks (1-1/2" X 1-1/2" with 1/4" hole ) and acrylic reel seat inserts. I was shaping cork (round cork) on my drill press with 18" peices of all thread and wing nuts.
The threaded "TK" manderals from backlash intrigued me. How the heck do you use them?

I have a brand new one from harbor freight. 4 jaw. I think it's 3/4' X 8 threading. It wont fit my jet lathe 1" x 8 (probably the same that you have) If it will fit I will mail it to you for whatever shipping costs me.
Let me know

Trying to find a blank for a friend. He has a Fenwick HMXS 70 M ( 1/8 - 3/4 oz. 4-12lb test) He loves the blank to death and wants a custom rod with a similar blank. The Fenwick is light weight and stiff for 4-12lb test rating. Can anyone reccommend a blank?
THANKS!
