Got very lucky and aquired 6 St. Croix rods (very cheaply) that aren't quite the way I want them. Thinking of modifiying them just a touch.
1. Color ---If I strip them of eyelets and lightly scruff, wipe down, prime with XIM spray and then a coat of Krylon--- will the paint hold? 2. One of the rods is an 8'6" Legend Elite 2 pc and I would like make it a 7'6" would I mess it up too much if I cut off the butt section and replace it? Re: Changing Blank Color

So one suggestion was let the Krylon dry for 5 days and then use Permaglos. Has anybody else tried that method? Re: Changing Blank Color

I like DupliColor auto colors
5-7 days then Permagloss or LumiSeal I would leave the 8'6 alone Try casting it outside with the butt marked -- before you cut A foot will take some power off the blank You may ruin it Bill - willierods.com Re: Changing Blank Color

Thanks Bill ---Duplicolor gives me a lot more options. I will take your advice on the trying out the 8'6" before I trim it. I do mostly inshore and kayak these days, it's getting to the point that 6+ hrs offshore wipes me out. The 8'6" just seems like a bunch of rod for my purposes. Re: Changing Blank Color

PG is pretty hot and will eat up the Krylon unless it is 110% cured. Rust oleum hammered finish is pretty neat on blanks and their auto paint works like a champ also. Fun to experiment with different products / colors. Sorry, only registered users may post in this forum.
