So...... I just got my 1st issue of Rod Maker. Volume 13 issue 3. Glad I subscribed to the mag!! Good stuff! The write up on Williams Custom Rods really made me jealous. I have a 22' x 25' garage with a 15' flats boat in it, a ghetto cork lathe and 2 rod lathes (all finish epoxy is done on the kitchen counter top... the wife LOVES that). I think I made the best out of what I have..... It

The Lamiglas GSB 120 is rated for 40 lb line the Calstar 270-8 is rated for 12-30lb line Is that right? I just could not see doubling (or almost tripling) the max rec. line weight. I would not have any confidence in those blanks muscling around a gator (or a 100lb fish) with 80lb braid. Am I being to cautious or will those blanks actually handle 80lb braid? If so... you g

I'm in the process of figuring out something along the same lines. Mine is for snatching gators for gator hunting in Florida. I was at Mud Hole a few months ago and held a Calstar 670XH-8 ... E - glass blank. It's 1.5 feet shorter than what you are looking for... it's 8'6" but it's a beast of a blank with some good flex in the tip for a heavy rod. The blank itself is heavy (total

Thanks guys! I have built on some of the mudhole colored blanks before. I really like the 6'6" 14-18. I would like to hold the pink e-glass one next time I pick up an order.... that might work if it really is a FAST blank. I'm going to give the painting thing a try on a jigging blank. I'll let you all know how it works and holds up. It will be awhile before I start. THANKS AGAI

A friend of mine wants some 7' pink rods for his wife's birth day that they will be using a TLD 20 w/ 30lb mono, and pulling dead baits for dolphin, sails etc off the east coast of Florida and bump trolling live baits. He also wants a vertical jigging spinning rod in pink. I have searched all over the place and can't seem to find the blanks needed. What is the best paint and the best way

Lots of great info in the Library... THANKS. Jim, excuse my ignorance but when you say DF guides I assume that that means double footed right?? If so I agree with you 100 percent. The extra weight will not be an issue. I want a strong rod that will stand up to some fish abuse. THANKS

Hi everyone. I am still pretty new to rodbuilding. I have built about 12 or so rods and I now have a new addiction! I just got a 9' fast action rod that I'm going to build for bucktailing the inlets and cobia fishing (spinning reel) I have a bunch of guides from size 40 down to 8. Is size 40 a good choice for the stripper guide or should I go up one size? Is there an ideal distance from t
