Andy, I'm looking forward to the ThreadMaster Lite! Have you thought about a formulation with a UV inutiator so that once the wrap is coated, you could hit it with one of those UV guns the dentist uses and cure the epoxy in a matter of minutes? That would cut down problems with dust, etc and be the best of both world. Cheers, Michael

Thanks all. Dave, you make a compelling case on the titanium guides. I was leaning that way and wanted to see if anyone else had an opinion on them. thanks! Michael

I want to build a 9' 4wt on a St Croix SCV blank (which is a glossy brown color). I like the Struble U20 reel seat. My question is what single foot guides would look good with this build? I would prefer ceramic guides if possible. best regards, Michael

Yes, that is what I figured. Of course, trying to contact the Red Sox legal to get permission or even PAY a reasonable fee for rights is next to impossible. I've spent at least an hour on the phone. So much for trying to do the right thing. How about this: use an official redsox decal on the rod. Do decals have useage license agreements? If not, then maybe this would work.

Hello, I have a potential client who would like a Red Sox theme fly rod. I most certainly can do up a weave design and use good old red & white wraps, etc. My question is on the legal use of the Red Sox logo in the weave design. I suppose this question would also apply to college logos and teams, etc. What do folks do when they have a request for such a rod/weave? cheers, Michael

I spent last night packing a fishscale wrap. I am using one of the Gudebrod plastic burnishing tools. It was tough going - the point was almost but not quite small enough to get in between threads. My hands hurt! Anyway, in Clemens book he shows a metal tool with a blunt point. Are these available anywhere? What does evrey one use for packing? Cheers, Michael

I've just finshed several of Mark Crouse's rainbow trout pattern. It is very nice. The wrap thread is black. It shows through for the eye, spots, gills and other details. Mark Crouse = Munich Rod Man, in case you didn't know!

Wow, thanks everyone. I have contacted the vendors mentioed via email and most certainly the forecast blue is what i am after. Using a 4 pice fly rod and dropping the butt section is a super idea and like you said, gets a more portable rod. And, the price is right too! Very warm regards, Michael

Hello all, I would like to build a 2 piece 6 to 7 ft light to medium light spinning rod for my son's Cub Scout graduation. I'd like to keep the blank price below $50US. I have designed a weave pattern of the Cub Scout logo and his Pack and Den #s to weave on the butt and an Arrow of Light weave for the ferrule wrap. I would like to do this on a blue blank since the Cub Scout colors are blue &

I am trying to find a source for light to medium action spin casting blanks in 2, 3 or 4 pieces 6 to 7 ft long in the sub $50 price range. I find it surprising that there is a large selection of single piece 6 to 7 footers (who would want to lug that around!?) but really few multi pice blanks. One question I have is regarding the practicality of creating a multipiece blank out of one of these

Mudhole (on the left) carries the Sage TXL blanks in 7' 10" 3wt for $250 - build it yourself and save a couple hundred bucks.

Yeah, I just called my sister in law, she has a vcr so I should be all set! Oh well, so much for high tech! I like the convenience of being able to play a dvd on my laptop while I follow along. It worked for fly tying! cheers, Michael

Well, I did a bit more poking around and the video only comes in VHS so I am out of luck.

Does Doc Ski's video only come in VHS format? It figures that I only have dvd. Also, I noticed that he has 2 videos - which is the best one to get.

Thanks John, Unfortunately VisualWrap does not work on a Mac. I find it very interesting that I can find info on almost any esoteric hobby I have somewhere on the web except for decorative rod wrapping.

It seems that just about everything related to rod building - except weaving - can be found here and other places on the Web. I just completed my first rod (9' 8wt fly) with 2 color wraps, static guide placement, etc and a wrapper and motorized dryer with info I found here. However, I can't find a single "open" source for doing anything fancier with regards to weaving! I would like to t

Jeff, thanks, that's a great idea. I aslo like the pipe insulation for the other chuck. I'll try both of those ideas. Michael

Thanks Tom. So the practice of coating and drying a section at a time is reasonable? Michael
