Thanks for taking the time to share Nick. Best tip I've seen in nearly 25 years.
(Wish I would have seen your video prior to stripping a center pin rod last week...If I had it would have cut the clean time in half, and I'd still have functional finger and thumbnails!)

Ron,
I got some of the casting seats from you year before last, but am looking for the spinning reel seats this time around.
Thanks.

Hoping one of the board sponsors here may have a few of the discontinued Batson, textured/soft touch reel seats left lying around somewhere?
(Looking for 16mm with Tich hoods.)
Thanks in advance for any assistance in locating these.

Anyone on the forum know of a possible supplier for - 17mm spinning/fly type reel seats with opposing, movable hoods, or threaded barrels that hoods could be added to, in excess of 6"? Intended application is for spey and center pin builds, where a few different weight and diameter reels will be used (at different times), on the same rod.
For reference, factory Loop Opti Spey rods have se

I settled on a 560 SA Skagit when I had that rod, and it loaded and shot acceptably with various T-tips and a wide range of fly sizes. However, being a little faster action than the 13'3" Forecast, felt it was better suited to Scandi lines, in the 525 grain range.
Have fun with your build.
(When did Batson discontinue their plum spey blanks?)

I prefer the rear grip on CP rods to be roughly the same length in inches as the rod is long in feet, and run the same 4.25" fore grip regardless of rear grip length. (Fore example: 12' rod - 12" rear grip, 13' rod - 13" rear grip, ect.)
Aluminum reel seats are nice but really cold in winter...
Minima guides work great on CP rods, they're lightweight and have a slightly lar

Just wondering if any board sponsors might have any of the discontinued Forecast 16mm Textured Blank Through Casting reel seats left, or maybe members here that may know of where to find a couple?
(I am after 12.5 size, silver hoods a bonus.)
Thanks in advance for any afforded assistance in locating.

I would also suggest before settling on rear and fore grip lengths; installing tip top, temporarily attatching reel to be used on finished rod in close vicinity to where it will eventually and permanently stay, and hanging a fair amont of line out through the tip top. Swing balance from this exercise can be further dialed by deciding whether reel seat should be down or up locking in assembly.

Hoping someone on the board here may be able to offer suggestions in my search for a discontinued G. Loomis, GL3 1445 blank?
Thanks all for any help in the matter.

Paul,
!2' seems to be the overall perfect length for the application I seek. Anything longer oscillates too much and is a hassle casting in the brush/trees and anything shorter tends to be either too beefy or too light. We are making long casts using primarily 12#-15# mono main with 30-35 gram floats and 5/8 oz.-3/4 oz. weights. Often times10'+ fixed leaders are used to get the offering where

Each of the responses to my blank question are much appreciated.
Spencer,
I will definitely give Mark the Munich Man a try.
Ken,
The 12 footer that A.R. advertises is very tempting, yet a 2 or 4 pc. is desired so as to afford quick and equal length breakdown. (Never been a fan of 3 pc. rods due to their inability to perform the afformentioned task in as easy a manner.)
Paul,

Anyone on the board possibly have knowledge of a 2 pc. or 4 pc. 12' center pin or spey blank, with a mono rating of 8#-12#, or fly line rating of 7/8 or 8/9?
I've built all variations from all manufacturers in the 11' - 13' range, but ideally would like to find a true 12 footer with the above listed line rating(s), that won't require any chopping or extension modification.
Thanks for any a

Anyone have knowledge of "suggested" guide spacing for this particular model? The link on Batson's forum appears to be currently non funtional... Or unavailible for view on my end. Karry will likely forward info shortly but I'd like to get started on it's build ASAP.
Thanks to any that are able to lend a helping hand here.

Thanks.

Building yet another pin rod and have questions regarding handle length for some of you more experienced crafters here on the board. I thus far have built on the Lami 11'3", Forecast 12'6" spey, and am now laying up the 11'6" Forecast spey. Both the existing 12'6" and 11'3" have the same handle configuration, 9" rear, 4"-17mm reel seat and 11" fore (total h

Thanks for all of your suggestions. I finally mixed up a batch of the Diamondite (after a year of storage), last night and will use that as soon as I get a "lengthy lightbank" assembled...
Good hookups !

Looking for suggestions regarding a medium build one part rod finish (clarity not an issue), that can be applied and dried in shorter order than conventional two part formulas.
Have a fair number of steelhead rods that need to be fishing by the end of the month and do not have the time to "traditionally" finish them. Blanks range from 9'6" - 13' and have between 14 - 20 wraps p

Thank you both for your input on the guide spacing and sizes. Was wondering why Jesster had recommended the larger ring sizes for the tip section, the forgotten freezing scenario helps to explain. For this particular rod freezing is not much of a concern as it will only see fall use on the Thompson along with very slight secondary use on the Sauk in late spring spring, (hence the heavy mono and w

Building a 13' pin rod and was looking for some guidance on stripper guide placement, (ballpark distance from reel seat along with ring size). The rod will be fitted with an Islander Steelheader loaded with 20 lb. mono, throwing approximately 1/2 - 7/8 ounces with float.
Thanks in advance for any assistance.
