Hey fellas, between the three listed above who makes the fastest 8wt switch blank?
All are listed as fast in catalogs but we all know that may not be the case.
Just wanted to satisfy my curiosity.
Thanks!

Thanks for the info fellas!
And to clarify, I am referring to the complete titanium alloy guides rather than plated models.

Hey fellas, do you still prep the guide feet before wrapping?
Is there one manufacturer that has a better prepped foot and finish for wrapping?
Speaking solely for spinning and casting rods up to 20lb.
Thanks!

Batson gets my vote.
One stop shopping from the blank to handles to guides etc.
Folks are great on the phone and are always willing to help, even when there is an odd question involved ;)

I will toss my two cents into the mix.
The Phenix is tough blank to beat, although made overseas.
St. Croix has a few shorty blanks.
But I've been looking into the Talon Graphite blanks.
Lamiglas has large selection as well in mudhole.
As for the blank itself, I'd pick the slower/parabolic action. Just a bit softer for the papermouths a little funner IMO with 2lb mono.

Thanks Spencer!
How's the taper on that blank?
Does it shut off or is the blank more parabolic and bend to the butt?

Hey fellas, has anyone built up a CTS EST regards or length or power?
It's designated by CTS as salmon/steelhead blank.
Any input is appreciated.

+1 what Fred said.
Spin jig may have slightly softer tip for bettery shaky head and wacky worm action.
7.5-8.5" split grip would be about right.

Hey fellas!
Does anyone know what a size 5.5 TLSG SIC and TKTSG SIC weigh in at?
Also what the ring ID is?
Thanks!

Hey fellas, what advantage(s) does building a float rod have using a fast action blank versus a mod-fast blank?
Assuming same line weight rating.
I've been contemplating using the Batson switch blanks to build up as float roads due to multi-piece design for travel.
Previous switch blanks were mod-fast, new blanks are fast.
Also new blanks are 4" longer.
I am assuming that the

Gotcha Bill!
The 4wt Batson works perfect with 2lb mono.
Any more and 5 wt seems right.

Okay fellas I am lost...where do you guys see the 8 foot 5 wt blank?
Forum: rodboard 10 years ago
Will Dea
Thx Spencer and Phil!
However those blanks are 8'6 and I am wanting 8'.
I should have elaborated more; I had a pair of RX8 3 and 4wt fly blanks made into spinning rods and they are phenomal with 2lb mono and #2
Panther Martins. Jumping to 4 & 6 lb and #4 spinners the rods are a bit overloaded.
Hence my search for 5wt for a spinner.
Suggestions?

Hey fellas who makes an 8' 5wt fast or extra fast action flyrod blank?
I St Croix does but painted and I am looking for matte finish.
Either 2-3-4 piece blanks would be ideal.
Thx!

Hey fellas, search the image gallery and google with no luck.
Anyone have a pic or two of a VSS split grip done up EVA foregrip, cork rear grip and EVA butt?
Trying to visualize but failing miserably.
Thanks!

Hey fellas, whom already have built spinning rods around the MWG system?
Wondering what your impressions are?
I am contemplating a build using them but I wonder if in lighter line and lure weight applications (2-6lb tests, 1/8-1/4oz) if there is an noticeable advantage to the standard cone guides?
I can see when using heavier mono/floro/braid and lures there needs to be more control of

Thanks Tom and Spencer for the replies.
Tom, that's what I was thinking as well just need some confirmation I was heading in the right direction.
Spencer, I did not think of that and now I gotta hunt down a copy for reference.
Thanks!

Hey fellas, is there a guideline for suggested monofilament line weights for use with fly blanks built as spinning rods?
I know of the general guide of line weight/16 to get an approximately lure weight.
Just wondering if there is something similar for fly line weight to mono line weight.
Thanks!

Hi John, looked into the Talon's but nothing listed on their website for those models. Do you have a specific link?
Hi Bruce, I've scanned through the website and don't see the listing, can you link me please?
Thanks!

Hey fellas, any recommendations for a 7'6 3 piece or 4 piece spinning blank fast taper and light action?
I found the MHX 7'6 ML blank but just a little bit heavier line and lure weight.
Looking for a travel rod blank for trout fishing while I travel, casting spinners and Kastmasters using 4-8lb test and 1/4 to 3/8oz lure weights.
Suggestions?
Thanks!

Karry that's some great info there!
How's the break strength of the old Musky blanks compare to the new?
What kind of applications for saltwater do you see with the new Musky blanks?
Forum: rodboard 14 years ago

Hmm, thanks for the info Ken....I was beginning to wonder what the double askerisks meant....looks like Batson is 86 those models in favor of a few new ones...
Looks like they changed up the model designations and line ratings to boot...
Karry you there? Read us in....

Hey fellas has anyone else build up rods using the Batson Musky blanks for saltwater? If so, for what application/species?
Been thinking of wrapping up a few for bottom fishing here in NorCal and AK using heavy iron. Maybe even wreck fishing out in GOM.
Figured the blanks are plenty light and I figured if they can handle a +40lb and then some Musky, bottom fish shouldn't be an issue.

Thanks again fellas for the info.
Whit, I absolutely agree with your statements hence the reason I posted the question here...just a wide variety of experiences at my fingertips.
Ken, thanks for the info too! I'll drop a line to AAR to get some ideas.
More info....please!

30. Re: batson blank
Jason, the SW967 is a very good rod with the 1-3oz stuff and can go a bit heavier if needed but that's assuming you'd want the 8' rod.
If not you can scale down to the ISWB904 which is HIGHLY under rated IMO,
I've got all 4 of the ISWB blanks and they are all exceptionally well made and straight.
