Has anyone use the RSG/RSPG REC titanium guides on spinning trout and medium steelhead rods? Line weights between 2 thru 6lb on the 7 foot trout rods. Line weights between 8 thru 12lb on the 9 foot steelhead rods. Yeah, I know they're gonna sing a bit but not too concerned about it. Suggestions?

I've exchanged some lengthy emails with St Croix agents and they have been extremely helpful on all levels. That's not to say they are the only company that actually communicates with customers: Karry @ Batson and Robert @ Phenix are more then helpful also! Can't help but support companies that actually pay attention to their customers....

Thanks Mark! I've looked at the CF tubing and found that it wouldn't fit some of the blanks I am using due the larger blank diameters but on the small stuff I'd be nice!

Hey fellas, has anyone used the Matagi KD or SD gear? If so, are those parts just threaded decorative replacements for the locking nut for Fuji seats? How about the CF tubing, not the tubing for interchangeable rear grips? Can it be used to go the full length from the end of the blank to the reel seat and beyond (providing sufficent tubing length)? Or is it used as trim? What I am tryi

I'll throw in my 2 cents to it Tim albeit from a newbies point of view! I am thinking the same way also, reducing the about of weight in the front 2/3 of the rod in the hopes of increasing sensitivity. I agree that there is going to be an increase in potential "feel" but I've been considering other factors too. For instance, the type of the fishing line used for said lure applica

Fair enough fellas, all the reason and suggestions make sense. Just wondering if how much more performance I can actually squeeze outta the rod by tweeking the little stuff. Thanks!

I was advised by the local GLoomis rep that the Mossyback rods are painted IMX blanks with different tapers and actions, FWIW. I've pulled on quite a few and compared against similar model MBR rods and they are pretty close IMO but not exact. The MBR seem to be a jsut a little stiffer but that's just my observation. As for the the SWBR904C, check will Bill for sure. But the only blank I hav

Thanks Tom and Billy for the replies. Tom, can you give me a reference point what you mean by wide, standard/narrow spools in terms of reel size(s)? Billy, so what you are saying is to use the smallest butt guide that will keep the line off the blank/grip while the rod is under load, right? Some of the rods I plan on building will also use braid/mono combos but much shorter lengths, less th

Hey fellas got 2 questions: On heavy freshwater and light inshore baitcasting rods, do you prefer to use a 16 or 20 stripper guide on a 400 or 6500 size reel? As for line index, how do you want the line to flow through the guides? That is to say, what is the position of the line in reference to the ring from stripper to tip? Example, do you want the line to contact the stripper ring at

Hey fellas, has anyone built up some plugging/backbounce/casting sticks on these St Croix blanks? How's the backbone on these blanks? Pretty stout or do they have a little flex to them? Is the tip actually fast or more mod-fast? Are the lure and line weights accurate for each appropriate blank or are they a little over-rated? Thanks!

Thanks Anthony! So what I gather from the measurements, the MNSG and LNSG are the same height. But what's the difference between the MNSG and LNSG guides? Thanks again!

Between the Fuji MNSG, LNSG, and NSG which have the lowest ring height using a size 16 for example? Meaning, which sits closest to the blank? Is there an online guide of the Fuji ring heights available? I haven't been able to make heads or tails of the Fuji website. Thanks!

Hey thanks fellas! Mike, conventional levelwind. Yeah Tom, I couldn't think of the correct terminology to use for "choke" guide as I knew it applied to spinning rods. Hey Jim, looking at your personal guides looks like you got some overlap between the lighter and heavier rods? Does throwing and retrieving heavyweight (2-13oz) lures change guide selection?

Hey fellas just kinda curious what guidelines you guys use to help decide on whether to use single or double foot guides past the choke guide on a baitcasting rod? I interpret the choke guide the 3rd or 4th guide up from the striper guide. No brainer on the heavy duty saltwater and the ultralight stuff. But how about the inbetween species? For instance, largemouth bass, muskie, pike, snook,

Hey Don, I've fished them both side by side and they feel the same to me. I don't care the balance of the rods and they feel kinda short in the rear grip for my liking. Rods seem to be pretty well made although I have seen a fair amount of returns on both models due to broken tips. I have a few friends that use those rods exclusively and their only complaint about them is the relatively fragi

Yup, the CF sleeve on the Dobyns rods is employed as a means for balancing out the rod. GLoomis used the same on the FSR-series rods too. IIRC, the Dobyns and Powell rods are manufactured in the same plant overseas using Lamiglas technology. Don't quote me on it tho, I just seem to remember an extended forum topic addressing it. Truth be told, I've pulled on both Dobyns and Powell ro

Hey fellas, I was wondering for those that are using the CF sleeving as trimming above a foregrip or in the middle of a split grip are you using any type of baselayer before adhering the sleeve and then shrink tubing it? By baselayer I mean, either thread, tape, cork etc. Or are you just using a bonding agent on the blank and then strinking the CF sleeving on top? Kinda wondering if the sle

Thanks fellas! Anyone got a spare issue of Volume 3 #4 I can borrow/buy to read on the rest of the article? Hey Robert was that set up you were using a baitcaster or spinning? Would you fellas suggest also using fly guides on baitcasters slated for heavier braid like 50-65-80lb with appropriate leader for pike/muskie/peacock bass/golden durado/saltwater inshore/bay jigging? Heavier drag

Thanks Ted for clarification! When you mentioned fly guides I automatically thought of the single foot wire guides. Man, I thought that was just plain weird to use single foot wires out to the tip!? Time to read up!
