Here is my post from a previous topic.
The guy that I built the rod for who is in Mexico said the foot was
coming off the blank. He sent me pictures and in reality the
epoxy had formed a small crack at the end of several of the guide feet.
Have never had this problem before but this jigging rod is parabolic
and has a severe bend in the blank when loaded up with a 25 lb

Thanks for the help everyone,,,,, it is appreciated. :)
As advised above (by Tom & Fred) I think the main problem is that I did not put any
pressure on the thread when wrapping the guides. That and my guide placement
needs some improvement. ( thanks Bill) Also used 4 guides to get completely under the blank
which I have found out is too many.

Have just built my second Acid Rod. Using a Rainshadow503-300 jigging blank.
Problem the 4th guide is separating from the blank. Used Alps Black Stainless Steel guides.
NCP "D" thread , on layer and Flex Coat Epoxy. 2 coats. The epoxy cures well, very hard.
Any suggestions please on how to correct this problem
Are there strength differences for different epoxies.

10. Re: Colonon Rod
Thanks for your input it is really helpful.
The but section is an aluminum tube 1" OD.
I cannot get the 11/16 hypalon to stretch that far.
What do you do for rear grips on the 1" diameter.

Thanks for the feed back and additional suggestions guys....
The blowing up of the dust off the bench has never been a problem
with me. When using the hair dryer I aim it up and away from the table, like shooting at
the 11:00 position. To be honest I have never had any problem
what so ever with dust getting into the epxoy coating. Just don't aim the
blower down towards the work bench whe

I am just an amateur. I build my own rods and one now and then for a friend.
But have come across a method to never have to worry about air bubbles in the
epoxy again. No more slow stirring, mechanical rotating cup, or
careful mixing to avoid air bubbles.
The following is a procedure if followed will eliminate the air bubble issue.
First off one myth has to be killed right now. And t

Thankx for the feed back guys, Like I said I'm no pro and I appreciate what has been said. I think I like the idea if doing a thin coat first , that would facilitate a bubble free finish with the second coat and eliminate my song and dance. :) I will try that method on my next project. This could make my life a lot eaiser.

Epoxy Application Tricks I Have Learned.
Do not wrap a lot of rods. Just for myself and some friends. Been doing it for about 3 years and I am no pro but I can wrap a desent blank. I know just enough to be dangerous. LOL !!
Would like to pass on a trick I use when applying epxoy to the wraps. This may already be widly known but I have never seen it published before. So I hope what I am ab

You did not say casting or spinning guide. If its a casting guide, the heavy duty type with the extra brace from the bottom of the ring to the foot on each side, that could be the problem. That type of guide is ultra stiff and when the blank bends it forces the foot up off the blank and will crack the epoxy right at the edge of the foot.. I have seen this happen on new factory rods. First off I pulled the post because I felt my explanation of the problem was not concise enough and would be misinterpreted creating more confusion than help. Also the tone of the reply came across as being dogmatic which I wanted to avoid.
With a lot of help from reading posts on this site, I have personally just completed my first build, a SW1087 Rainshadow , a 20 lb bait stick for sling
