Have just built my second Acid Rod. Using a Rainshadow503-300 jigging blank.
Problem the 4th guide is separating from the blank. Used Alps Black Stainless Steel guides. NCP "D" thread , on layer and Flex Coat Epoxy. 2 coats. The epoxy cures well, very hard. Any suggestions please on how to correct this problem Are there strength differences for different epoxies. And would double wrapping help. Thanks for any suggestions. Walt. Re: Acid Rod ...HELP!

It sounds as if you didn't get quite enough tension on the guide wrap or have a spiral wrap system that puts a great deal of side load on the guide. Epoxy isn't going to hold it in that case.

The thread is what holds the guide in place. The epoxy finish protects the thread. Check the tension when you rewrap it to make certain there is enough. What spiral method did you use? Freddwhy (Rapt-Ryte) Re: Acid Rod ...HELP!

Take the guide off Ya got to anyway
Run the line though the guides Let The Line Tell you where the guides should go Under pressure The line should ( under pressure ) stay at the bottom of the guide ( not the sides ) If it is pressing on the side of the ring Move it so it is not and at the bottom of the ring Try different sizes like said Under Pressure the line must have been pressing on the side of the ring That is why it is being pulled off the blank then after you have them set to where you Think They Should be Put weight on the line as in pulling in a fish Look at where The Line Is On The guide Rings Adjust as needed When you cast it does not make ( that much ) of a difference A little But under pressure is where you have to be aware of the line Bill - willierods.com Re: Acid Rod ...HELP!

Thanks for the help everyone,,,,, it is appreciated. :)
As advised above (by Tom & Fred) I think the main problem is that I did not put any pressure on the thread when wrapping the guides. That and my guide placement needs some improvement. ( thanks Bill) Also used 4 guides to get completely under the blank which I have found out is too many. These parabolic speed jigging blanks take the ultimate abuse and Acid Wrapping just presents a much greater challenge then wrapping a conventional Med. Fast action blank. Walt Re: Acid Rod ...HELP!

Actually, you don't need any guides to get the line under the blank - it will go there naturally if you'll let it.

I can see the challenge with a Parabolic jigging blank. The fore grip is normally long and the first guide is high to keep the line (braid) off the anglers hand. Therefor the lone needs to travel further to get under the blank. Let us know what you end up with. Freddwhy (Rapt-Ryte) Re: Acid Rod ...HELP!

The guy that I built the rod for who is in Mexico said the foot was
coming off the blank. He sent me pictures and in reality the epoxy had formed a small crack at the end of several of the guide feet. Have never had this problem before but this jigging rod is parabolic and has a severe bend in the blank when loaded up with a 25 lb Yellow Tail. Any suggestions please on wrapping procedures that will correct this issue. Thanks in advance. Walt Re: Acid Rod ...HELP!

Hello Walt.
You need to thin your guide feet a bit and start your wrap closer to the guide foot and if that doesn't work you may have to look into some smaller guides(and still do the rest too). Bob, New Bern, NC. Sorry, only registered users may post in this forum.
