Thanks Rich, for recommending the AT Microwave alternative. I have two rods to build and will likely use the AT on the one I'm keeping.

Thanks to all for the great advice. The tip is 1.8mm, should I use a standard, large or extra large tip top?

Thanks so much. It is for salt water and I will follow your good advice. I had planned on going with a 20,16, followed with six 3s. Will adding a 10 benefit casting?

I'm new to fly rod building and could use some advice on striper guides. I am preparing to build a 9'9wt. rod using snake guides. I am not sure of what striper guides to use . Are these simply casting guides or is there a specific style for fly rods?
Many thanks

I am, for the first time applying cork wraps to surf blanks. The beginning and endings of the wrap do not adhere very well, eventhough the blanks were well cleaned using alcohol. Is it safe to apply a thin epoxy coating directly over the wrap to prevent unraveling, or would it be adviseable to thread the wrap ends before using any adhesive or cork wrap sealer?
Many Thanks

16. ALPS Components
I recently ordered a salt water surf rod that was supposed to be fitted with all FUJI, components to include a FUJI, DPSM reel seat. The rod was not delivered as advertised and came with an ALPS reel seat. Does any one have any idea as to the quality of the ALPS product line? I have been a loyal fan of FUJI for many years and never owned anything ALPS.
This was an expensive purchase, please sh

To date, everything I have read concerning choker guide placement seems to be based upon spinning reels. Is the principal basically the same for a casting reel? Can the measurement of a fully loaded casting spool be used and multiplied by 27 to get a good location for the choker? Also on blanks over 10' is it proper to use the larger guide, immediately before the smaller running guides.

I am rebuilding 3, casting, surf rods, using Fuji, LC, Reverse guides. Two of the rods are 11" one is 11'6". I am seeking the best method for determining distance from an installed fully loaded reel, to the first 20mm ring guide. I want to learn where the line should fall inside of the ring. Should it be centered, or touch the inner top outer top of the ring? I will finish the guide tr

20. Rod Tip Issue
Any one have a suggestion for adapting a oversized rod tip. The tube is too large for a 9 and is a bit to small for a 10mm tip.

Has anyone heard of, or personally built a rod, adding a spring type wire to the inner blank. A friend is recommending doing so to increase the weight throwing capacity on a North Fork Composite, surf blank. The blank is rated to heave 2 to 8 ounces. It is a blank NFC lists for trolling as well as surf use. Having examined the front blank section, my friend believes the rod will not handle much m

Thanks Roger,
My casts are fairly stationary, turning and shifting my weight, much like a golfer.

I could use some advice on reel seat placement for maximum casting distance. I am building my second surf rod, a 12' 8" CCP, conventional set up, with a Fuji DPSM 22 mm seat, Kw guides, 25 0r 20, 16, 12, 10, two 8s, and a 8 or 10 ring tip. Some say to measure from the arm pit extending the arm down the blank to the thumb resting point. Others recommend placing the butt in the center of the c

New guy here, building my second surf rod. I want to set the reel seat for maximum casting distance. Some say it's best to measure from the arm pit, while extending your arm along the blank. Others advise to set the butt center of chest and extending the blank along the arm. Others advise a given 30 to 32 inch range. The seat is a 22mm Fuji, going on a 12'-8" Carolina Cast Pro, blank.
