I have a guy custom pour mine. It's been working out great. You can pick your colors, and end up with enough to do at least one grip, usually two if you cut it right. I could pass along his info if you'd like. Hit me up via email: coosawrods@gmail.com

It's your ink. When I would buy the expensive name brand ink for my printer, I could transfer the images very easily. Now that I buy the cheap off brand ink, I cannot do it. I print my images from the printer at work now. Works great.

I tool a look at the glasses in the photo section before responding, cool stuff! If you are planning on doing a cross wrap, try laying a base of thread first then wrapping over that. If you are having trouble with slippage just doing a normal wrap, try holding you packing tool right against the thread immediately after it lays down on the glass. With just a little pressure, you ought to be abl

Ask the engraver to lay a piece of tape down, engrave the handle through the tape, and leave the tape on. Then you can paint the engraving, and remove the tape.

I want to encourage folks to enter into this next year. It's a wonderful cause and run by passionate people. When Ollie Hughes spoke about the the event and what it meant to those who would be receiving the rods that were built, it was very moving, and apparent to everyone there how important this small gift of gratitude is to those injured in the line of duty. Thank you for the opportunity to pa

You should be fine without CP on any metallic advertised for rod building. I cannot comment on metallic thread used for embroidery purposes.

I had to track him down on Facebook. Issued a refund. Nice guy, but I think there are some things that are keeping him from running his business. Could happen to anyone.

Thanks for the help everyone. I tried talking him into the CTS but it is too expensive for him. I'm basically donating this build in exchange for some free advertisement. He agreed to pay $200 for materials. I hesitate to build for free and shell out extra dough to cover extra expenses as I'm not sure how many potential customers will actually get to use the rod. I unhid my email as well.

Had a guide request a 10' 2wt for nymphing. Having trouble locating a blank for a reasonable price (near $100 or so). Can anyone point me in the right direction? Thanks! ~Arnot

I think they all make noises that are hard to identify. You will find that if you stop the drier motor fully with your finger, it will reverse direction. That is how they are designed. It's much easier than flipping the switch until you get the direction you want. I would use that motor until it breaks and then just replace it. They are cheap and easy to install.

I'm pretty sure that they are made in France by Brice Fabre. Not sure if they are available though.

I started putting my reel seats on upside down so that they would down lock because I too would have issues with them loosening during use. It solved that problem for me, now they tighten with use. I don't have any advice on them being too wide however, sorry.

I picked this up at a junk store for $5. Though it might ream some cork. Turns out that this thing is the best tool that I have ever used to hand ream cork. Reamed a grip from 1/4" to around 5/8" in about 10 minutes. Highly recommended. I'm sure a power reamer is faster but man, it sure was fun watching the cork dust fly!

Interesting. I'm about to deliver a Batson rod that has no label as per the customer's preference. I'm providing the warranty card with the label affixed to it. I hope that will work. Not that I foresee any problems with the blank.

Thomas, I got the bark for this particular handle from a fallen tree. I liked it so much that I ordered some from Customflygrips. I should have taken more from the tree, but I wasn't sure how it was going to work out. I collected it while on a family trip and won't be back in the area for quite some time. I've finished up the handle and the butt. I went with tung oil and I'm very happy wi

Thanks for all the comments. Seems there is more than one way to skin a cat. My next concern is the rubberized cork on the handle. Should I put the finish onto it as well, or avoid that area. Seems to me that the finish would not penetrate those areas and stay tacky.

Steve, I was thinking pure tung oil might be what I was after and after seeing your pictures, I think that is the way to go. Someone else mentioned teak oil but I am unfamiliar with it. I was originally thinking true oil, but the final finish is too glossy. I want ZERO shine, just warm wood tones. Did you thin the first coat of tung oil to help it penetrate into the wood? Thank you

I just fit the birch handle that I made onto the blank. I have a great fit and now its time for me to think about finish. I do not mind a darkening of the wood, I do not however, want a glossy finish. Any suggestions/insight are greatly appreciated. Thank you!
