In the process of rebuilding/restoring a two piece split bamboo rod. Both halves of the ferrule cleaned up to look like new. The problem is the two pieces fit together too nicely. The top will fly off with the first cast I am sure. Are there any tricks for making them fit a little tighter? I have encountered the opposite problem many times. This is a first for me. I am pretty sure I will b

2. Sabre Blank
Hello,
I recently purchased hundreds of rod blanks and am trying to identify a Sabre blank. It has an orange sticker that has SABRE printed on it with 665 hand written underneath. It has a size 8 tip. No other designations. The blank is black. Does anyone know any specifications for this rod? I am specifically trying to determine if this rod would make a good stand up Tuna rod for 80# li

In addition to plastic washers I use two wing nuts facing each other. I lock them together with the "wings" out. This will prevent them from tightening or loosening.

Ken Preston taught me to use Sally Hansen clear nail polish over labels. He showed me how it will prevent epoxy from lifting the label as well. I coat all around the edges of every decal and sticker and have never had an issue since.

Thank you both for the suggestions.
Bill,
The reel seat arbor idea worked great. Just used it for a few hours.
Thank again.

Any suggestions on where to purchase or how to make an insert to hold Madeira thread spools on an Alps wrapper thread carriage? The wrapper came with an insert that is too large for the Madeira spool and the metal post is too small. Having a hard time keeping the spool straight and secure.

While restoring an old rod with a wooden handle and foregrip I noticed the reel seat is loose. While attempting to remove it to re-epoxy I found the reel seat is nailed on. One nail in the handle and one in the foregrip. Of course the nails are small however they are rusty. I am not sure if I want to replace the nails (and use epoxy) or replace the reel seat altogether. Could this be original

Thank you Jon and Lynn. On the rod that prompted me to post here I used Lynn's method and it is turning out perfect. This rod appears to be green in color throughout. The urethane is providing the deep wet look I wanted. On another I have started down the path Jon described since this rod was paint over a clear (yellowish) fiberglass blank.

Refreshing (afraid to say restoring) an old fiberglass boat rod. Stripped everything off of it. Sanded and now ready for urethane (as I learned from an earlier thread). My question is can I put on a coat of urethane prior to wrapping the guides like I have been doing on bamboo rods or should I wrap the guides then urethane? If I urethane first do I use epoxy on the wraps or more urethane? Th

Great company. Personalized service, quick turnaround and shipping costs are "actual".

I would make a 6 foot rod and go with "I meant to do that". Besides the practice would be invaluable!

Looking for rod ferrules to replace split ones on restored bamboo and wooden rods. Currently in need of a 16mm chrome/brass for a BEST BYTEST (Horroks Ibbotson) wooden rod. Found something "similar" on a major sponsor on the left ($6.53 + $5.95 shipping) but not as detailed as original. Any ideas or leads? Thank you.
