Will there be or are there any plans for an ICRBE in Texas?

On this sort of scale? No. The demographics don't favor it and past tries by others pretty much prove this to be the case.

I'm up on Lake Conroe. I went to the ICRBE last year and it was outstanding but couldn't make the trip this year. Hopefully next time.

There are some rodbuilding group activities around Houston. Terry, at Fishing Tackle Unlimited (Gulf Freeway) was doing some gatherings/learning sessions at one time. Not sure if he still does. Kenny at the Katy Freeway store does Saturday morning classes on rod building every once in a while.

It would be nice to have a group around here that gets together to talk about rodbuilding like the NERBS, SERBS, and Michigan rod builders. Anyone care to organize it.

I've spoken with Terry a couple of times and he did mention that he used to do some small classes. I have met some builders in and around the area (that live within 50 miles of Houston) that I consider very knowledgeable. Hopefully they will consider your suggestion. I procrastinated and wasn't able to get in on the class that Mudhole is doing here in April. Hopefully, they'll get enough positive feedback that they'll consider doing a class here annually. Steve, do you know Bob Stearns? He built a rod for me in 2011, in part he inspired me to start building my own. He's a great guy!

Spend some, save some, give some away!!! :-)

I think having a group here in the Houston area like the others would be great... seeing the nerbs group and the way they work together is awesome ....

Arthur,

I stared this passion about five years ago by taking a Mudhole class. I've probably built 16 rods since then. All for either myself or friends and family. I don't know Bob Stearns.

Brandon, I agree, do you want to organize a together?

Steve, Brandon even though I'm still in the novice phase of this craft. I'd love to be part of any group that would help me be a better builder. I work full time but, if I can help at the grass roots level, just let me know.

G'Day Guys take the plunge you won't regret it .A couple of years ago 3 of us who used this board & had a similar conversation & from that the SEARBs came into existence .It is without a doubt one of the best things I have been involved in .We now have about 20 members & there is a couple that travel around 1000 miles to attend our meetings .The people that belong to the group are some of the best I have the pleasure to call friends .It has been worthwhile doing & I would recommend it to any Rod Builders .

G'Day Arthur I'm more than happy to help in any I can my email address is bchapman@exemail.com.au .I can almost guarantee once that once you get the first one under your belt you will wonder why you didn't do it earlier .As rod building is a fairly lonely pastime it is great to be able to speak to others with a common addiction.

If you guys have questions on my opinion oh how to get started successfully - please feel free to ask. I've helped guys set up gatheirngs in NC, Alaska, Ohio, Michigan, and Chicago, and I do gatherings pretty much every week or 2 in teh winte r(not with this crap weather) in NY, NJ, Mass, and planned one in Maryland that got weathered out last month. In 2012 I averaged 22 builders at EVERY gathering, and there were over 20 gatherings throughout the year (and I lost 3 due to the storm)

Build it, and they will come!

Brandon,

Can you unhide your email or send me your address. Arthur and I spoke this afternoon and are going to try and get a rodbuilding group together here in Houston. We'd like to include you in getting it started.

Thanks
