I use nano on a 10' crappie spinning rod I had built a couple of years ago. I love it but afraid it is not heavy e

Sorry for not replying more often. Between raising 6 children and owning and managing a business free time can be hard to come by. For some reason I done get notifications any more from my accounts so I only see the replies when I think to check on them. I will try to be better at checking.

I am looking for a blank to build a surf type rod on. I want to reach 120 yards with as little weight as possible in both the rod and lure weight. I want 11' to 13' feet of rod length to manage the line at distance through the cross currents. I will be fishing a tail race with this rod using as light of lures as possible. I have a thread about this on surftalk. All suggestions have been for

That explains why I could not find a reference chart. LOL
Thanks for the replies. I will look up the common cents system.

I finally located our local builder. He agreed to strip down the rods I started and completely redo them. I saw the first finished one on Friday. It is FANTASTIC! He did a great job on the split grip with cork tape wrapped in between the grips to protect the blank form the rocks we fish from. He used kw guides and it casts very well. I am so excited to get them back and fish them for the first ti

I have been reading about popping blanks and have a question about the power ratings that keep being mentioned. I see things like "2 power", or, "really it is a 4 although it is listed as a 5" listed in reference to the power of the blank. I have searched both this site as well as the net but cant find an explanation of these powers. Can someone point me to a reference that

Thanks Guys.
I will talk to him about a flat rate or however he wants to do it. Not a big deal to me either way.

Thank you Tom.
I would expect him to do no less than what you described. I own a business and as you know, when you own one you find yourself being a little gracious to other buisness owners.

Hey folks,
Haven't been around in a while. Just too busy I guess. I have several rods that I started messing with and never got around to the final wrap. I have all the components and will have the guide and reel seat set where I want them. I spent hours test casting these rods to best handle the reels and braid I am using. These are light surf rods being built for distance.
Here is the qu

If I set a reel seat with 5 minute epoxy can I remove it with heat or does it still need to be cut off?

I have looked for a 8'6" one ounce and found nothing close to a fast or extra fast. Is there a 7' or 7'6" that could be extended to 8'6" and have a sweet spot between 1 and 1 1/4 oz?
Also, how does extending the blank affect the action and weight that a blank can cast? I would think the action would not be affected but with the extra length the castable weight could be affected

I spent some more time looking at the local stores and also online. Is there a 8' 6" blank that will have a sweet spot in the 1 - 1 1/4 oz range and have a extra fast or fast tip? Nearly all we fish is topwater of some sort so the faster action is a great advantage. The above blanks are not fast action.

Post should have read NOT too concerned with big fish. The rods we have built so far are 1-2 oz 7'11" and 1-4 oz 9' with line weights in the 25 and 30 lbs range. These are only fun to catch fish on when they are larger fish. Doesn't take a lot of rod here to quickly land a fish because of the way the current flows. Landed a 9 lb fish yesterday on 1/2 oz blank that was spooled with 15 lbs br

I am looking for a 1 ounce blank I can throw topwater lures and popping corks as far as possible. I want the blank to be very light weight. I and more concerned with distance and lite weight to be able to fast pop the rod for long periods of time. I am to too concerned with fighting big fish. This will be used for stripes in a tailrace and a 20 lb fish here is a fish of a lifetime. By far the maj

I have used both the 20 and 30 mm microwave sets on much heavier blanks that what I am looking at now. Is there any reason for concern when using them on ultra lite builds like on a fly blank?

Hey Spencer,
I must be looking at something wrong. The only 804 I can find is a RX7 IF804 and the only ones of those I have found are listed for $60+.
The IP840 looks promising and I may build one of each If I can find a supplier that stocks both.

Hey guys,
I am in looking for a spinning blank to cast crappie jigs. This will be for casting small bucktails and tubes from 1/64 to 1/8 oz. I am wanting something around 8'. I would like to keep the cost down as much as possible as it will be fished from the rocks and destroying it at any moment is always a possibility. That said, sensitivity is a must so I may have to bite the bullet and pay

Hey guys,
Charlie2 over on SOL said he used a hair braiding device to make rope soft rope for cast nets. I searched and found this if anyone is interested... Lacis Battery Operated Cord Maker and Fringe Twister. This would be much simpler than building what I did and the cost is about the same. I am still making up cord sections but I will post pics of a wrap as soon as I can.
I find it ha

Hey Steve,
Yes. Those are crows. We hunt them in orchards and farmers fields. We are avid hunters and fishermen. My favorite part is building equipment and reloading shells.

I am sure someone here has done this already but I will post this anyway. After searching for a suitable color and diameter of cord for a cord and cork inlay I decide to try to make my own. I found some very small nylon twine (masons twine) that I liked the colors of. I searched the net and found a pic of a "rope maker" I thought I could build. A trip to the hobby store and Lowe's and a
