Home Spun Cord for a Cord Wrap.

I am sure someone here has done this already but I will post this anyway. After searching for a suitable color and diameter of cord for a cord and cork inlay I decide to try to make my own. I found some very small nylon twine (masons twine) that I liked the colors of. I searched the net and found a pic of a "rope maker" I thought I could build. A trip to the hobby store and Lowe's and a couple of hours later I am spinning out twisted rope.

Here are some of my first attempts. After I got the tension worked out it is an easy process and the kids love it.

The first pic is navy blue, light blue, royal blue, and black that I used in the cord below. It is 16 strands and the finished product mics at .125" (1/8"). That is the perfect size for what I wanted and the color is good also. The others were just attempts to figure out what I was doing.

Greg,

The cord you're making is very nice, I expect you'll get a number of people on this board that are going to want to try doing it. I haven't made rope since my son was in Boy Scouts 20 years ago. I took the liberty of looking at your Photobucket., are those black birds crows?

Hey Steve,

Yes. Those are crows. We hunt them in orchards and farmers fields. We are avid hunters and fishermen. My favorite part is building equipment and reloading shells.

Hey guys,

Charlie2 over on SOL said he used a hair braiding device to make rope soft rope for cast nets. I searched and found this if anyone is interested... Lacis Battery Operated Cord Maker and Fringe Twister. This would be much simpler than building what I did and the cost is about the same. I am still making up cord sections but I will post pics of a wrap as soon as I can.

I find it had to believe this has not been done by some of you. Has no one here tried this before?
